Lions Club of Loutolim Honours Talents Rupesh Jogale & Mario Pimenta

The Lions Club of Loutolim recently celebrated the achievements of two outstanding individuals from the village, Rupesh Jogale and Mario Pimenta, during a special felicitation ceremony held as part of the official visit of District Governor PMJF Lion Jai Amol Naik.

The event began with a warm welcome by President Lion Allen Araujo, who highlighted the consistent efforts of the club in serving the community despite being based in a rural area. Secretary Lion Alwyn Mascarenhas presented a detailed overview of the club’s initiatives since July, which included environmental efforts like sapling distribution during Vanamahotsav, educational support for deserving students, financial aid, and various charitable activities.

The highlight of the evening was the recognition of two local talents who have made significant contributions in their respective fields. Rupesh Jogale, a respected name in Goan theatre and direction, was honoured for his dedication to the performing arts. Known for his powerful portrayals, including roles depicting Jesus Christ, Jogale shared his journey and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition bestowed upon him.

Mario Pimenta, a young and promising filmmaker from Goa, was also felicitated for his growing achievements in cinema and participation in various competitions. At just 21, Mario reflected on his journey, acknowledging the unwavering support of his family, especially his mother and sister. He encouraged aspiring individuals to pursue their dreams with confidence and action, noting that such recognition at a young age was both motivating and humbling.

District Governor PMJF Lion Jai Amol Naik congratulated both honourees and commended the Lions Club of Loutolim for its impactful work. He encouraged more individuals to join the Lions movement, emphasising its core philosophy of service and positive societal impact. During the event, he also presented letters from the International President of Lions Clubs International to veteran members, along with medals and badges, recognising their long-standing dedication.

Treasurer MGF Lion Joaquim Monteiro delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to all attendees and contributors to the event’s success. With nearly five decades of service, the Lions Club of Loutolim continues to play a vital role in fostering community development while celebrating and encouraging local talent.

Goan Documentary “Bhaangar: Kalakusar Karigiri” Nominated at NanoCon Film Fest 2025

A Goan short documentary celebrating the artistry of traditional goldsmiths has earned international recognition. “Bhaangar: Kalakusar Karigiri” has received a nomination at the prestigious NanoCon International Film Festival (NIFF) 2025, held in the state of Washington, USA.

Now in its 7th edition, NIFF is an independent film celebration hosted by the Lower Columbia Rotaract Club. This year’s edition received a staggering 2,964 short film entries from 194 countries — and only 100 films were selected as finalists. Among these, “Bhaangar: Kalakusar Karigiri” represents a proud moment for Goan storytelling and Indian student cinema.

Directed, narrated, and shot by Prachi Shirodkar, the documentary was edited by Mario Pimenta and created as part of a college project at Don Bosco College, Panjim, under the mentorship of Agnelo Raymond D’Souza.

The documentary provides a sensitive, in-depth look into the experiences and techniques of Goan artisans working in the gold industry. Featuring candid interviews with goldsmiths Virendra Rivankar, Rashila Shirodkar, and Pranay Shirodkar, the film explores the nuances of craftsmanship, generational knowledge, and the passion that keeps these ancient skills alive.

The nomination at NIFF marks the film’s first international selection and offers a spotlight on Goa’s lesser-told artisanal heritage. With strong storytelling, visual empathy, and cultural relevance, “Bhaangar: Kalakusar Karigiri” joins a distinguished lineup of films from around the world that celebrate identity, tradition, and innovation through independent cinema.

For a film that started as a college project, this achievement is a testament to the power of local stories told with authenticity and heart.

Goan content creator Mario Pimenta has added another feather to his cap by securing second place at the Ganpati Reel Competition organized by the Spandan Film and Television Institute (SFTI), Surat. Known online as @mario_sarkaar, Mario regularly participates in content competitions across local, national, and international platforms, and this latest recognition adds to his growing list of accolades.

For his entry, Mario collaborated with classmate Cayfel Almeida, who captured video footage of vibrant Ganesh pandals in Margao. Mario then edited the clips to create a compelling Instagram Reel that showcased the cultural spirit of Goa’s Ganpati celebrations. The competition, organized by SFTI Surat— the city’s first inclusive film school— judged entries based on the number of views received on Instagram.

The first place went to The Curious Mind Academy, while Komal Agarwal secured third position. Mario’s recognition marks not only personal achievement but also highlights the creative potential emerging from Goa’s digital landscape. His storytelling approach, rooted in local culture and powered by modern editing techniques, continues to resonate with wider audiences.

This win during a culturally rich competition shines a light on the growing presence of Goan creators in India’s digital content scene, proving that meaningful stories can emerge from every corner of the country.
