Sinq Rangers Clinch Thrilling Super Over Win in GSB Unity Cup 3.0


Margao witnessed a gripping cricket encounter on Sunday as Sinq Rangers defeated Ultracon Madgaon Royals in a thrilling Super Over contest in the GSB Unity Cup 3.0 tournament organised by the Goa GSB Sports and Charitable Trust at the MCC Ground.

Batting first, Sinq Rangers put up an imposing total of 196 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was built on a commanding 95-run opening partnership between captain Samrudh Bharne and Vismay Falgaonkar. Bharne struck a fluent 50 off 31 balls, including five fours and a six, while Falgaonkar contributed 50 off 39 balls with six boundaries. Nikhil Virginkar further accelerated the scoring with a blistering 50 off just 24 balls, smashing eight fours and a six. Sahil Adwalpalkar remained unbeaten on 21 as Rangers finished strongly.

In response, Ultracon Madgaon Royals matched the intensity from the outset, racing to 49 runs in the first six overs. Kartik Hattangadi scored a steady 50 off 35 balls with two fours and two sixes, while Sanat Prabhudessai added 50 off 34 balls, striking six boundaries. Captain Damodar Pai Patnekar chipped in with 32 runs, and Granthik Buyao’s crucial 16 runs in the final over ensured the Royals equalled the total at 196 for 6, pushing the match into a Super Over.

The Super Over brought heightened drama. Madgaon Royals managed only 4 runs in four balls, losing Granthik Buyao and Showmik Angle in the process, with Nikhil Virginkar claiming a wicket. Chasing 5 runs to win, Sinq Rangers showed composure under pressure. Samrudh Bharne took three runs off the first ball, and Vismay Falgaonkar struck a boundary off the second ball to seal the victory in emphatic fashion.

For their performances, Vismay Prabhugaonker received the Desserts n More Player of the Match award, while Nikhil Virginkar was presented with the Kamat Realty Hero of the Match award by Aditya Angle and Gurudatt Angle.

The match will be remembered as one of the most thrilling encounters of the tournament, showcasing high-quality cricket and nerves of steel from both teams in a dramatic Super Over finish.

CD Fountainhead Edge Past Rising Stars of Ponda by Three Wickets in GSB Unity Cup 3.0


CD Fountainhead registered a thrilling three-wicket victory over Rising Stars of Ponda in a league match of the GSB Unity Cup 3.0 at the MCC Ground, Margao, played under floodlights on Wednesday.

After winning the toss, Rising Stars of Ponda opted to bat first and posted 119 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. Openers Venkat Biche and Sanat Mhapne provided a brisk start with a 37-run partnership in just four overs. Nandan Acharya added 18 runs, while Paarth Kossambe remained unbeaten on 15 to help the team reach a competitive total. CD Fountainhead’s bowling attack was led by Manish Kakode, who delivered a standout spell, claiming four wickets for just 16 runs. He received excellent support from Aditya Prabhugaonkar and Vivek Keny, who picked up two wickets each.

In reply, CD Fountainhead found themselves in early trouble as Rising Stars’ disciplined bowling reduced them to 36 for 5. However, Manish Kakode once again turned the match in his team’s favour with a crucial knock of 50, anchoring the innings before retiring out. Pranav Biche chipped in with 12 runs, while Anish Prabhudesai remained unbeaten on 14 and Vivek Shantaram Keny added a steady 10 not out to guide Fountainhead safely to the target.

CD Fountainhead reached 122 for 7 in 14.5 overs, sealing a hard-fought win and earning valuable league points despite a strong bowling effort from Rising Stars, led by Sanat Mhapne and Ved Mahambre.

Manish Kakode was adjudged Man of the Match for his all-round brilliance, while Vivek Keny received the Hero of the Match award. The honours were presented by the chief guest, Jaiprakash Kunde, bringing a fitting close to an exciting contest.

MCC Thunder Crowned MCL 11 T20 Champions After Dominant Final Win

MCC Thunder were crowned champions of the MCL 11 T20 Cricket Tournament after registering a convincing 25-run victory over MCC Tigers in the final played at the MCC Ground, Margao. The final witnessed an entertaining contest as Thunder produced a dominant all-round performance to seal the title in style, with Sudesh Rane being adjudged Man of the Match for his decisive contribution with both bat and ball.

Batting first, MCC Thunder set the tone early and posted an imposing total of 189 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Their innings was marked by aggressive stroke play and excellent momentum throughout, with Om Fadte scoring a brisk 35 off 20 balls, Sudhir Shet contributing 35 off 24 deliveries, and Ved Mahambre smashing a rapid 36 off just 15 balls. Iftikhar Agha added late impetus with an unbeaten 30 off 16 balls, ensuring Thunder finished strongly. For MCC Tigers, the bowling effort was shared among Mrunmay Das, Pranav Dhuri, Viraj Tar and Balkrishna Hodarkar, who managed to pick up wickets at regular intervals.

In reply, MCC Tigers faced an uphill task chasing 190 and were bowled out for 164 in 20 overs. Viraj Tar played a spirited knock of 32 off 15 balls, while Chaitanya Kamat top-scored with 36. Contributions from Nikit Naik Dalal and Pranav Dhuri kept hopes alive briefly, but the required rate proved too demanding.

MCC Thunder’s bowlers held their composure under pressure, with Sudesh Rane delivering a match-winning spell of 4 for 23. He was well supported by Iftikhar Agha, who claimed two wickets, and Sudhir Shet, who chipped in with one. Their disciplined bowling ensured that Thunder maintained control throughout the chase and sealed a memorable championship victory.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by PWD Minister Digambar Kamat as chief guest, along with MCC member Sagun Naik and Raghuvir Kunkolienkar, marking a fitting conclusion to an exciting edition of the MCL 11 T20 tournament.
