Dragon Ball Super Returns After Eight Years with Galactic Patrol Arc Announcement

Written by Intern Rency Gomes ||Team Allycaral

At the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event in Japan, held to mark the franchise’s 40th anniversary, producers officially announced the return of Dragon Ball Super with a new arc titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. The announcement marks the anime’s comeback after an eight-year hiatus, following the conclusion of the Tournament of Power arc in 2018.

The new series will continue the story directly after the Tournament of Power, with Goku and Vegeta joining the Galactic Patrol to confront a powerful new antagonist—Moro, a planet-eating sorcerer who threatens the balance of the universe. Moro’s arc, which spans chapters 42 to 67 of the Dragon Ball Super manga, has been widely praised by fans for its darker tone, high-stakes battles, and deeper exploration of Saiyan growth.

A teaser revealed at the event showcased Goku wearing his iconic orange gi adorned with the Galactic Patrol emblem, while Vegeta appeared in a blue Patrol uniform, both set against a dramatic cosmic backdrop. The visual instantly sparked excitement among fans, signalling a fresh aesthetic direction while retaining the franchise’s classic identity.

The anime will be produced by Toei Animation and directed by Naoki Miyahara, with the original work credited to the late Akira Toriyama. While an official release date has not yet been announced, the confirmation alone has generated massive buzz across the global anime community, with fans eagerly anticipating the animated adaptation of one of Dragon Ball Super’s most celebrated story arcs.

Xolo Maridueña Joins One Piece Season 3 as Portgas D. Ace

Written by Tanisha Cardozo || Team Allycaral

Netflix has officially announced that Xolo Maridueña will play Portgas D. Ace in Season 3 of the live-action adaptation of One Piece. The 24-year-old actor, widely recognised for his roles in Blue Beetle (2023) and the hit series Cobra Kai, becomes the latest addition to the expanding ensemble. Season 3 was greenlit in August, while production is set to resume later this year in Cape Town, South Africa.

Based on Eiichiro Oda’s long-running manga, first published in 1997, One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, portrayed in the live-action series by Iñaki Godoy. The story centres on Luffy’s quest to find the legendary One Piece treasure and become King of the Pirates. The series also stars Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Maridueña joins the show as it continues to expand its universe with new characters and adventures. Broadway actor Cole Escola was recently confirmed to play Bon Clay, adding to the excitement around Season 3. Fans can also look forward to Season 2, which premieres on March 10. According to the official logline, the upcoming season will see Luffy and the Straw Hats setting sail for the Grand Line, a formidable and mysterious stretch of sea filled with bizarre islands, dangerous encounters, and unexpected allies.

Maridueña is no stranger to Netflix viewers, having starred as Miguel Diaz across all six seasons of Cobra Kai, the series inspired by the Karate Kid franchise. He also appeared as a special correspondent during Geeked Week 2024, teaming up with co-star Jacob Bertrand. With his casting as Ace, a fan-favourite character known for his fiery abilities and deep connection to Luffy, anticipation for Season 3 has grown even stronger.

The announcement marks another major step for the live-action adaptation, which has earned praise for its faithful yet refreshing take on the beloved manga. With new cast members, new locations, and new arcs ahead, One Piece continues its journey with the same adventurous spirit that has captivated audiences for more than two decades.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle—Part 1: Akaza Returns Surpasses Titanic in Japan, Earns $28.5M in IMAX Before Global Release

The anime juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down—before even hitting major markets like the U.S., Europe, and China.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle—Part 1: Akaza Returns, directed by Haruo Sotozaki, is rewriting the global box office playbook.

According to trade analyst Luiz Fernando, the film has already raked in a staggering $28.5 million from IMAX screenings alone—without launching in the world’s biggest markets. Currently running in Asia Pacific territories including Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand, the film’s early performance hints at a massive global impact once it rolls out internationally.

In South Korea, the movie opened to a record-breaking $13 million in its first 3-day weekend, setting a new benchmark for animated features in the country.

But the real triumph came in its home country. In Japan, Infinity Castle has officially surpassed James Cameron’s Titanic with a total of ¥28 billion (~$190.1 million) in box office earnings, climbing to the 3rd highest-grossing film of all time in Japan.

Not just in revenue—Demon Slayer also broke into the elite league of audience admissions. With 20.3 million tickets sold, it overtook Disney’s Frozen, becoming the 3rd most-watched film in Japan’s cinematic history.

The film continues the epic saga of Tanjiro Kamado and the Demon Slayer Corps as they descend into Muzan Kibutsuji’s domain—the terrifying Infinity Castle—for one final, climactic showdown. The return of Akaza and the rise of the Upper Rank demons sets the stage for one of the most intense arcs in anime history.

With anticipation building for its North American release in September, global exhibitors are preparing for a box office surge that could see Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle enter the ranks of the top-grossing animated films of all time.

Fans worldwide are bracing for the final battle—anime, it seems, is no longer a niche but a global box office force to be reckoned with.
