RC Goa Enter Final; Priority Titans Survive Super Over Thriller in PGM L 5.0


RC Goa stormed into the final of the PGM L 5.0 Cricket Tournament organised by Panjim Gymkhana after defeating Baale Tigers by four wickets in Qualifier 1 at the Panaji Gymkhana ground in Campal. The much-anticipated final will be played on February 22.

In the morning clash between table-toppers RC Goa and second-placed Baale Tigers, RC Goa won the toss and elected to bowl in what turned out to be a low-scoring contest. Baale Tigers were bowled out for 117 runs in 19.5 overs, with Samar Dubhashi top-scoring with 33 runs, Lakshay Garg adding 27, and Dhiraj Fadte contributing 20. Ramnath Gaonkar was the standout performer with the ball, delivering a fiery spell of 4 for 17, while Gauresh Khandepakar and Nakul Mhamal chipped in with a wicket each.

Chasing 118 for victory, RC Goa faced early setbacks and were reduced to 59 for 4 in 12 overs. Ramnath Gaonkar once again made an impact, scoring 27 crucial runs. After his dismissal, RC Goa found themselves in trouble at 87 for 6. However, Gauresh Khandepakar rose to the occasion with a blistering unbeaten 24 off just 8 balls, including three sixes and a four, steering the team home in 19 overs with one over to spare.

In the Eliminator, Priority Titans defeated Manas Mavericks in a thrilling Super Over encounter. Batting first, Priority Titans piled up 199 for 5 in 20 overs, with Adeep Miskin scoring a quickfire 50 off 28 balls and Rijul Pathak adding 38. In response, Manas Mavericks matched the total at 199 for 9, thanks to half-centuries from Avishkar Mone and vital contributions from Sairaj Dhond and Pranav Biche, pushing the contest into a Super Over.

The Super Over drama saw Manas Mavericks lose both wickets without scoring a run. Priority Titans required just one run to win and secured victory off the very first ball, booking their place in Qualifier 2 against Baale Tigers. The PGML 5.0 League matches played at the Panjim Gymkhana ground on Saturday delivered a mix of closely contested and one-sided encounters, keeping cricket fans engaged throughout the day.


In the morning fixture, Priority Titans edged past Manas Mavericks by three wickets in a thrilling contest. Opting to bat first, Manas Mavericks put up a competitive total of 154 for six in their 20 overs. Avishkar Mone led the charge with an aggressive 44, supported by Vijay Nagarajanโ€™s 34 and an unbeaten 19 from Pranav Biche. For the Titans, Kiran Shirwaikar spearheaded the bowling attack with two wickets, applying pressure through disciplined spells.

In reply, Priority Titans recovered from an early wobble through a composed innings from Heramb Shankar Parab, who top-scored with a match-winning 54. Valuable contributions from Kiran Shirwaikar (23), Atharva (22) and Akshay Badami (21) ensured the chase stayed on track. The Titans reached the target in 18.4 overs, finishing at 155 for seven. Despite a standout bowling effort from Om Fadte, who claimed four wickets for 28 runs, Parab was named Player of the Match for his decisive knock.

Spectators at the Panaji Gymkhana ground were treated to two closely fought league encounters on Saturday in the ongoing PGML 5.0 tournament, with Desserts N More Avengers and RC Goa emerging victorious in nail-biting finishes.

In the morning match, Sun Estate Warriors won the toss and elected to bat but were restricted to 125 for 9 in their 20 overs. Mehank Dharwadkar stood firm with an unbeaten 48, while opener Devidas Kholkar chipped in with 31. Despite a steady start, regular wickets in the middle order curtailed the Warriorsโ€™ progress. Madar Basappa was the pick of the bowlers for Desserts N More Avengers, finishing with two wickets, while Ojas, Amod Borkar, Vikas Shetty and Muktiar Kadri claimed one wicket each.

Chasing 126, Desserts N More Avengers paced their innings carefully to reach 129 for 6 in 19.1 overs. Amod Borkar anchored the chase with a composed 50 off 42 deliveries. In the closing stages, Smit Dalvi and Suraj Hirani remained unbeaten to guide their side to a four-wicket win. Dhilan Shah was the standout bowler for Sun Estate Warriors with two wickets, while Rohit Rane picked up one.

The afternoon fixture saw Manas Mavericks post 128 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs after opting to bat. Ajinkya Kudtarkar top-scored with 38, supported by Avishkar Moneโ€™s 21 and an unbeaten 18 from Raj Morajkar. In the morning fixture, Dempo Challengers posted 193 for 5 in 20 overs, powered by Vedant Naikโ€™s explosive 43 off 16 balls, including six sixes, and Shaileshโ€™s 38 off 20 balls. Sherwin Shaw Falcons chased down the total, finishing at 194 for 7 in 19.5 overs. Tunish Sawkar starred with 54 off 22 balls, while Sazu Naik (30) and skipper Iftikhar Agha (28*) played crucial cameos. For Dempo Challengers, Aditya Angle claimed a remarkable 5 wickets for 26 runs.

Manas Mavericks, Priority Titans Open PGML 5.0 With Emphatic Wins

The fifth edition of the Panjim Gymkhana Members League (PGML 5.0) commenced on Saturday at the Panjim Gymkhana ground, Campal, Panaji, with Manas Mavericks and Priority Titans registering convincing victories in their opening matches. The much-anticipated T20 tournament began with great enthusiasm, drawing players, officials and cricket enthusiasts in large numbers.

Earlier in the day, PGML 5.0 was formally inaugurated at the venue. The ceremony began with the toss involving team captains, umpires and the match referee, followed by a formal gathering attended by the Panjim Gymkhana President, team owners, captains, Managing Committee and Governing Council members, along with the Chief Guest. Panjim Gymkhana President Manoj Caculo welcomed the gathering, after which the Chief Guest, Goa Cricket Association President Mahesh Dessai, officially declared the tournament open by releasing balloons along with the team owners. The ceremony also featured an address by the Chief Guest, presentation of a memento and the playing of the National Anthem. GCA Secretary Tulsidas Shetye was present as the Guest of Honour.

During the function, several dignitaries were felicitated for their contributions to the sport. Rajesh Khaunte presented a memento to Mahesh Dessai, Suresh Mahadevan felicitated Tulsidas Shetye, Sarfaraz Sheikh honoured Prasad Shirsat of Golden Goa, while Manish Karapurkar felicitated Amit and Mary from Majestic, the tournament sponsors. In his address, Mahesh Dessai expressed special appreciation for Anil Pai Angle and Sandeep Naik for their guidance and continued contribution to cricket.

The cricketing action began with the opening match between Manas Mavericks and Dempo Challengers. Manas Mavericks delivered a dominant performance, posting a massive 220 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs, powered by a half-century from Vijay Nagarajan and valuable contributions from Avishkar Mone, Om Phadte and Mihir Gawde. In reply, Dempo Challengers were restricted to 132 for 9, as the Manas Mavericks bowlers shared the wickets to secure an emphatic 88-run victory.

In the second match of the day, Priority Titans continued the trend of dominant performances, scoring 198 for 5 against Sun Estate Warriors. Adeep Prabhu Miskin top-scored with a well-crafted half-century, while Jaipal Mada and Heramb Shankar Parab added crucial runs. Sun Estate Warriors were bowled out for 134 in 16.4 overs, handing Priority Titans a convincing 64-run win.

With the successful start of PGML 5.0, cricket fans can look forward to several weeks of high-quality T20 action, competitive performances and growing excitement at the Panjim Gymkhana ground.
