Power Panthers, Dhadsakhal Stars, Oxford and Ghumteshwar Shine in Junior Cricket Championship

Panaji: Power Panthers Porvorim, Dhadsakhal Stars, Oxford and Ghumteshwar emerged victorious in the Junior Cricket Championship organised by Oxford Cricket Club at SAG Ground, Chicalim and Arlem Ground.

At SAG Ground, Chicalim, Panajim Challengers batted first and posted 139 for 6 in 25 overs, powered by an unbeaten 80 from Vansh Kudtarkar. In response, Power Panthers chased down the target comfortably, scoring 140 for 2 in 20 overs. Samaan Manjrekar (55) and Sahil Metri (37) set up the victory with solid contributions. Samaan Manjrekar was adjudged Man of the Match.

In the second encounter at the same venue, AK Rangers scored 131 for 6 in 25 overs, with Ayush Gaonkar contributing 62. However, Dhadsakhal Stars made light work of the chase, reaching 132 for 3 in just 16.2 overs. Pranjal Singh’s 59 proved crucial, while Adeep Prabhu Misquin was named Man of the Match.

At Arlem Ground, Margao Cricket Club were restricted to 115 for 6 in 20 overs and suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Oxford. Oxford achieved the target comfortably, scoring 120 for 2 in 15.1 overs. Rumaan Mulam remained unbeaten on 43 and was declared Man of the Match.

In another closely fought contest, Ghumteshwar edged past Banjara Cricket Club by four runs. Ghumteshwar posted 133 for 6 in 25 overs, with Rehan Hubali top-scoring with 49 and Parth Sankpal contributing an unbeaten 21. Banjara were limited to 129 for 7 in their 25 overs despite Yash Naik’s 45. Parth Sankpal was named Man of the Match.

The tournament was inaugurated in the presence of Goa Ranji cricketer Darshan Misal as Chief Guest and senior Goa player Vinavi Gurav as Guest of Honour. Also present were Junior Cricket Championship President Romeen Bunty Mulam, JCC Mentor Sandip Naik and Treasurer Naresh Assoldekar.

RC Goa, Sun Estate Warriors Register First Wins in PGML 5.0 at Panaji Gymkhana

RC Goa and Sun Estate Warriors registered their first victories of the tournament on Sunday in the ongoing PGML 5.0, organised by the Panaji Gymkhana at the Campal ground in Panaji.

In the morning match, RC Goa put up a dominant performance against Priority Titans. After winning the toss, Priority Titans elected to bat first and posted 106 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Rijul Pathak top-scored with 34 runs, while Heramb Shankar Parab contributed 22. RC Goa’s bowling unit shared wickets evenly, with Gauresh Khandepakar and Dattesh Priolkar claiming two wickets each.

Chasing a modest target, RC Goa reached 111 for 4 in just 10.5 overs. Skipper Rajshekhar Harikant stole the spotlight with a blistering unbeaten 55 off just 19 balls, smashing seven sixes and a boundary. His match-winning knock earned him the Man of the Match award, presented by chief guest Rajesh Dempo in the presence of Manish Karapurkar and Amit Nachinolkar.

The second match of the day saw Sun Estate Warriors take on Baale Tigers in another low-scoring contest. Baale Tigers opted to bat first after winning the toss but were restricted to 115 runs in 19 overs. Samar Dubhashi remained unbeaten on 37, while Dhiraj Phadte added 33. Sun Estate Warriors bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Balkrishna Hodarkar and Manish Kakode picking up two wickets each.

Sun Estate Warriors chased down the target comfortably, scoring 116 for 5 in 15 overs. Abhijit Bhandare top-scored with 51 runs off 30 balls, striking five fours and two sixes, while Mithun Govekar added a valuable 35 before retiring out. Bhandare was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by chief guest Harshvardhan Bhatkuly in the presence of Girish Parekh.

Both teams had suffered defeats in their opening matches, making Sunday’s victories an important boost as the PGML 5.0 tournament continues to deliver exciting local cricket action.

MCC Knights Storm into Qualifier 2 with Dominant Win Over MCC Masters


Margao : MCC Knights booked their place in Qualifier 2 of the MCL 11 T-20 cricket tournament with a commanding 58-run victory over MCC Masters in the Eliminator match played at the MCC Ground, Margao.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, MCC Knights put up a competitive total of 162/9 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Sairaj Dhond, who top-scored with a fluent 38. Valuable middle-order contributions from Vikram Gaitonde (23), Ameet Kakode (18), Kapil D.S. Borker (18) and Siddhant Ghanekar (18) ensured the Knights maintained momentum throughout the innings.

For MCC Masters, Dr. Prasad Ghode was the standout bowler with impressive figures of 3/30, well supported by Sudesh Prabhudesai (2/20) and Dr. Sunny (1/15).

In reply, MCC Masters struggled to cope with a disciplined bowling attack and were bundled out for 104 runs in just 15 overs. Vikrant Prabhu (37) and Dr. Prasad Ghode (18) offered resistance, but wickets fell at regular intervals.

The Knights’ bowling was spearheaded by a sensational spell from Siddhant Ghanekar, who claimed 5 wickets for just 14 runs, effectively sealing the match. He received excellent support from Vipul Kalekar (2/8) and Vikram Gaitonde (1/20).

For his outstanding all-round performance, Siddhant Ghanekar was deservedly adjudged Man of the Match.

With this emphatic victory, MCC Knights now march into Qualifier 2, where they will face MCC Thunder on December 26, keeping their title hopes firmly alive.
