More Than a Thread: The Unbreakable Bond of Brotherhood

Written by Nikita Volvoikar

As Raksha Bandhan approaches, I find myself wrapped in a wave of emotions — love, nostalgia, gratitude. It’s a festival that always reminds me of the special bond I share with my brothers, especially Nikhil, my elder brother, who has been my first friend, partner in crime, and a constant support system.

Ours is what you’d call a Tom and Jerry relationship — filled with squabbles and silly fights, yet rooted in a love that never wavers. Despite all the teasing and disagreements, we’ve always stood up for each other when it mattered most.

Growing up, Nikhil and I shared a deep love for dancing. He would take me to the dance floor at weddings, and together we’d dance the night away. Even today, I miss those moments — especially now that he works away from home. He’s also my trusted secret keeper, and we’ve created memories that I will always hold dear.

One of the things I admire most about him is how he expresses his care — not through grand gestures, but through thoughtful little actions. Whenever he calls home, he always checks in on me:
“Where’s baby? Is she home from work? What is she doing?”
It’s those small things that speak volumes about his love.

Mom once told me that Nikhil used to pray for a sister before I was born — and when I arrived, he was overjoyed. That thought alone fills my heart with warmth. Over the years, our relationship has grown from sibling rivalry to a beautiful friendship built on trust, loyalty, and deep affection.

But Nikhil isn’t the only brother I’m blessed with. I’ve had many brothers — by blood and by bond — who’ve played important roles in my life.

There’s Rahul, with whom I have cherished summer vacation memories. We would spend hours playing and just enjoying the innocence of childhood.
Johnathan — my modern-day partner in crime — our plans are always spontaneous, but somehow, they always work.
Calvin, my little brother, has grown up so fast. Watching him become more independent and confident makes me so proud.
Fabian, Viraj, Rajat, and Vineet — each one has stood by me in different ways, sharing in laughter, festivals, and life’s ups and downs.

From bursting firecrackers during Ganesh Chaturthi to simply being present during key moments, my brothers have always made me feel seen, loved, and protected.

As I look back at these beautiful memories, I realize how truly blessed I am. We’ve had our fights, disagreements, and differences — but what’s endured is our bond, stronger than ever.

So this Raksha Bandhan, I want to say thank you — to Nikhil and all my brothers — for being there, for loving me unconditionally, and for making my life brighter in ways you may never even realize. Happy Raksha Bandhan to all the wonderful brothers and sisters out there. May your bonds continue to grow stronger, and may all broken ties be healed with love.

Grandparents’ Love: A Bond Beyond Time

Written By Nikita Volvoikar

There are all kinds of relationships we build in life—parents, siblings, friends, co-workers—but some are simply irreplaceable. For me, that was the bond I shared with my grandparents. It’s a relationship I still cherish deeply and one that continues to shape who I am.

Growing up with working parents, my brother and I spent most of our time with our grandparents. And while both of us were loved immensely, I won’t deny that I was definitely a little more pampered. They spoiled me—with love, attention, stories, and life lessons.

My Grandpa – My Secret Keeper and Cheerleader

Grandpa, a proud Goan, loved his traditions. I still smile when I remember our quiet adventures—sneaking snacks, watching him enjoy a tiny glass of Urrak in the backyard cottage, and getting caught by Grandma despite our best efforts. He trusted me with his secrets and gave me his unwavering support, even encouraging me to sing in church. The way he looked at me—with pride and love—was everything.

My Grandma – My Superwoman

Grandma was everything: strong yet soft, firm yet incredibly loving. She helped raise me, braid my hair, teach me how to be a responsible, confident woman, and encouraged my passion for cooking. She fed us with stories, comforted us when we were sick, and made sure we were always cared for. Her love wasn’t loud—but it filled every corner of my childhood.

Their Absence, Their Legacy

Watching them grow old broke my heart, and losing them felt like losing a part of myself. Their absence still leaves a void no one can fill. I miss their hands, their hugs, and their voices. But I believe they are watching over me, just as they always did—with love and prayer.

A Message to You

If your grandparents are still with you, treasure them. Listen to them. Hug them more. Forgive them quickly. Their love is a rare kind—pure, selfless, and eternal. And if they’re no longer here, keep praying for them. Because long before you knew yourself, they were praying for you.

Grandparents are a blessing. Love them while you can. Pray for them always.

Hello June – New Month, New You

Hey Guys!

We have almost reached half way through 2020 and all I can say – What a year it has been so far. Within just 06 months we came across situations and circumstances that questioned us about several things. Right from things that we took for granted to the fact that we have reached a stage where in order to be safe and to safeguard others we had to be at home.

Things that we so took for granted like may be going out for buying groceries, breathing without a mask, going out of the house freedom. Today we all are highly aware of how privileged we are to enjoy all these little things of life. Breathing fresh air, going out of the house without mask, stocking of groceries.

As we begin this new month today of June – I felt we should take a moment to make note of the things that we are grateful about – Be it a roof over our head, Be it a Safe Place to Live in, Having atleast essentials at home, Having Internet that helps us connect to our near and dear ones, in this difficult moment being safe, having our loved ones by our side and seeing them safe.

I know we haven’t reach the end, the Covid 19 pandemic is still on and we all have to live with it. But this is by itself a huge lesson, this whole process or experience taught us – to have greater appreciation for the small things in life, because the small things are really the big things. Will always look back to this phrase with gratitude. #GraciaGod🌼

Have an amazing rest of 2020. Remember it is still not over, let’s make the most of the rest of 2020. Still have high hopes that #2020ismine🦋
