Is Cristiano Ronaldo Coming to Goa? Hereโ€™s What We Know

FC Goaโ€™s CEO, Ravi Puskur, has spoken candidly about the buzz surrounding Al Nassrโ€™s visit to India โ€” and the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo joining the team on the trip.

In a strong statement, Puskur acknowledged the magnitude of the situation. โ€œLetโ€™s be frank, this footballer is bigger than the team. He owns around 20% stake in Al-Nassr, and he is such a global figure that if he decides to sit out a match, even the head coach canโ€™t really overrule him,โ€ he said.

The Indian Super League club is leaving no stone unturned. Puskur revealed that a delegation will be sent to speak with Ronaldo directly. โ€œWeโ€™re sending a delegation to speak to him directly. If Ronaldo isnโ€™t coming, weโ€™ll be upfront about it. We donโ€™t want to mislead anyone,โ€ he added.

The CEO also acknowledged the hype โ€” and the risk โ€” for fans. Tickets are reportedly selling fast. โ€œBut if he does come and tickets are already sold out, then fans who took that chance will have struck gold,โ€ said Puskur. โ€œThey will get to watch, possibly, the greatest footballer ever to walk the planet. After all, a clash with Al Nassr, one of Saudi Arabiaโ€™s top clubs, is an event in itself.โ€

The anticipation now boils down to two key points, as outlined by Puskur:
One โ€” Cristiano Ronaldo is officially registered to play in the match.
Two โ€” Whether or not he boards the flight to Goa.

โ€œThatโ€™s something we will only know closer to the time,โ€ he concluded.

If it happens, it will be a landmark moment for Indian football โ€” one that could go down in history as the day Cristiano Ronaldo brought his game to Goa.

AIFF Proposes Goa as Host for Super Cup 2025; Winner to Earn AFC Champions League Playoff Slot

Panaji, 14 September 2025: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has formally approached the Goa Football Association (GFA) to host the Super Cup 2025 across two prominent stadiums in Goaโ€”Nehru Stadium, Fatorda and Athletic Stadium, Bambolim. The tournament is tentatively scheduled from October 25 to November 22 and will be held in a phased format, aligning with the upcoming FIFA international window.

According to AIFFโ€™s proposed plan, the group stageโ€”featuring 16 teams divided into four groupsโ€”will be held between October 25 and November 6. A break will follow for the international window, during which India will face Bangladesh in the AFC Asian Cup qualifier on November 18. The knockout stages, including the semifinals and final, are expected to resume post this fixture.

In a letter addressed to GFA President Caitano Fernandes, AIFF Deputy General Secretary M. Satyanarayan requested the GFAโ€™s assistance in securing both stadiums, along with four training grounds for participating clubs. AIFF has also asked for support in managing floodlights for evening matches, providing ambulances and medical rooms, and ensuring seamless coordination with the Goa state government. Matches at Fatorda will be played under floodlights at 7:30 PM, while those at Bambolim will kick off at 5:00 PM.

โ€œThe AIFF deeply appreciates the long-standing cooperation extended by the GFA in hosting major national and international football competitions, and we look forward to your continued support in delivering another successful tournament in Goa,โ€ the letter read.

The GFA has responded positively, stating that it is keen to extend โ€œall possible helpโ€ to ensure the successful conduct of the tournament.

The Super Cup 2025 is expected to include 13 clubs from the Indian Super League (ISL) and 3 from the I-League, though four ISL clubs have only “conditionally consented” to participate due to pending clarity on the ISL start date and financial receivables. Odisha FC has already communicated its decision to opt out of the Super Cup but left the door open to reconsider if there is greater clarity.

A key incentive this year is the AFC Champions League Two 2026-27 berth. With India ranked 10th in the Asian Football Confederationโ€™s Member Association standings for the West Zone, it has secured two continental spots. The ISL winner will gain direct entry into the ACL Two group stage, while the Super Cup winner will receive the second slot via a play-off, provided the club meets Premier 1 licensing requirements. Should the team not progress through the play-off, it will automatically be included in the AFC Challenge League group stage, ensuring India maintains strong representation at the continental level.

With continental qualification on the line, participation decisions pending, and Goa ready to host, the stage is being set for one of the most significant domestic football tournaments in the Indian calendar.

FC Goa Return to Continental Football with High-Stakes Clash Against Al Seeb Club

Indian Super League (ISL) outfit FC Goa are back on the Asian stage this Wednesday, taking on Omanโ€™s Al Seeb Club in the preliminary stage of the AFC Champions League Two at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa.

This marks the Gaursโ€™ first continental outing since 2021, when they made history as the first Indian club to compete in the AFC Champions League group stage. Their ticket to this yearโ€™s Preliminary Stage came courtesy of their Kainga Super Cup triumph last season.

The challenge ahead is no small feat. Al Seeb Club are one of Omanโ€™s top footballing forces, having won the Oman Professional League in each of the last two seasons. In 2022, they etched their name in history by becoming the only Omani club to win the AFC Cup โ€” now rebranded as the AFC Champions League Two.

The match is a straight knockout, with the winner advancing to the group stage. For FC Goa, itโ€™s a golden opportunity to extend their continental journey, and theyโ€™ll have the backing of passionate home fans under the floodlights in Fatorda.

Back in 2021, FC Goa showcased grit and quality in Asia, holding their own with three draws against tough sides like Al Rayyan (Qatar), Al Wahda (UAE) and Persepolis FC (Iran) โ€” the latter making it to the quarter-finals before bowing out to eventual champions Al Hilal FC.

Match Details:

  • Fixture: FC Goa vs Al Seeb Club
  • Venue: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa
  • Date: 13 August, 2025
  • Kick-Off: 7:30 PM

Khalid Jamil Appointed Head Coach of Indian Menโ€™s Football Team

August 1, 2025 | New Delhi โ€” The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has appointed Khalid Jamil as the head coach of the Indian menโ€™s national football team, a historic move that ends a 13-year gap since an Indian last held the post.

Jamil, 48, becomes the first Indian head coach since Savio Medeira (2011โ€“2012) and was selected by the AIFF Executive Committee from a strong three-man shortlist. The final candidates included former India coach Stephen Constantine and Slovakiaโ€™s ex-manager Stefan Tarkovic.

A Proven Track Record

Jamil rose to national prominence after leading Aizawl FC to an I-League title in 2017 โ€” one of the greatest underdog stories in Indian sports. He is currently the head coach of Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (ISL), where he has earned praise for his tactical acumen and leadership.

The selection was based on recommendations by the AIFF Technical Committee headed by football legend IM Vijayan, who emphasized the importance of understanding Indian footballโ€™s cultural and developmental context.

Whatโ€™s Next?

Jamil takes over from Spaniard Manolo Marquez, who parted ways with AIFF following Indiaโ€™s disappointing performances in recent international fixtures.

His first assignment as head coach will be the CAFA Nations Cup, to be held from August 29, 2025, across Tajikistan and Uzbekistan โ€” a crucial platform for rebuilding team confidence and performance.

โ€œItโ€™s an honor to be given this responsibility. I believe in our players, our system, and what we can achieve together,โ€ Jamil stated.

Football fans and stakeholders alike see this as a bold and hopeful step toward developing homegrown coaching talent and nurturing a distinct Indian football identity on the global stage.
