Amazon to Unlock AI for Millions inIndia, Invest $12.7B in Cloud & AI Infrastructure by 2030

Written by Tanisha Cardozo || Team Allycaral

Amazon has announced a major initiative aimed at accelerating India’s AI transformation and supporting the Government of India’s AI Mission. The company is set to bring artificial intelligence capabilities to millions of Indians by 2030, with a strong focus on accessibility, productivity, and digital inclusion. As part of this commitment, Amazon is on track to invest $12.7 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure across Telangana and Maharashtra, strengthening the foundation for India to become a global technology leader. This investment supports the rapidly growing demand for cloud, machine learning, and agentic AI solutions and also complements Amazon’s long-running efforts in skilling. Since 2017, AWS has trained more than 6.2 million individuals in India to prepare them for a future shaped by AI.

A central part of this mission is Amazon’s plan to empower over 15 million small businesses with AI-driven tools that simplify operations, remove barriers, and enable entrepreneurs—regardless of size or location—to scale faster. Through innovations such as the enhanced Seller Assistant with agentic AI capabilities, the Next Generation Seller Central platform, GenAI-powered product listing tools, Creative Studio, and Video Generator, sellers can now create content, make informed decisions, and automate daily tasks with ease. These tools help level the playing field for small entrepreneurs, enabling them to compete with larger enterprises by providing professional-grade capabilities at their fingertips.

Amazon also announced a commitment to bring AI literacy and career awareness to 4 million government-school students by 2030. This effort supports the National Education Policy 2020 and aims to equip young learners with future-ready skills through AI-focused curriculum, hands-on activities, teacher training, and career exposure programs. By ensuring equal access to AI learning resources, even for students in rural or underserved regions, Amazon hopes to nurture the next generation of innovators who will create solutions for India and the world. Government leadership emphasized that integrating AI education into classrooms is a nation-building effort essential for achieving a Viksit Bharat.

On the customer front, Amazon continues to use AI to make shopping easier, more intuitive, and more inclusive for hundreds of millions of shoppers across India. Tools like Rufus, the in-app AI shopping assistant, help users discover products, compare options, and understand key features quickly and naturally. Lens AI allows shoppers to search using images, screenshots, or barcodes, while augmented reality features let customers visualize products like furniture in their own homes. These innovations reduce the effort involved in product research and decision-making and break down barriers of language, literacy, and digital familiarity.

Amazon’s broader vision is that AI should be an equalizer for India—empowering small businesses, enabling students, supporting economic growth, and making everyday life easier for customers. By combining large-scale AI infrastructure investments with user-friendly AI tools and nationwide skilling initiatives, Amazon aims to help India unlock the full potential of AI and build a more equitable digital future for all.

OpenAI’s Big India Move: 1-Year FREE ChatGPT Go Access; Sign Up from Nov 4

OpenAI has announced that starting November 4, Indian users can enjoy one year of free access to ChatGPT Go, the company’s new subscription tier that offers higher query limits, image generation, and file uploads. The limited-time offer coincides with OpenAI’s first-ever DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, celebrating the company’s growing presence in India — its second-largest and one of the fastest-growing markets for ChatGPT.

“To celebrate OpenAI’s DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru on November 4 — its first in India — OpenAI is making ChatGPT Go available free for one full year to all users in India who sign up during a limited-time promotional period,” the company said in a statement.

Launched in India in August, ChatGPT Go was designed in response to user feedback seeking more affordable access to OpenAI’s most advanced tools. Within a month of its launch, the number of paid ChatGPT subscribers in India more than doubled, highlighting the nation’s growing enthusiasm for AI-powered productivity solutions.

Building on this demand, OpenAI has now expanded ChatGPT Go to nearly 90 global markets. India, however, continues to stand out — home to millions of developers, students, and professionals who use ChatGPT daily to enhance learning, creativity, and work.

“This promotion is a continuation of OpenAI’s ‘India-first’ commitment and supports the IndiaAI Mission, reinforcing the growing momentum around AI in India as the country prepares to host the AI Impact Summit next year,” OpenAI said. The company also confirmed that existing ChatGPT Go subscribers in India will be eligible for the 12-month free access period.

Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, praised the enthusiastic response from Indian users since the initial rollout. “Since launching ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, the adoption and creativity we’ve seen from users has been inspiring,” he said. “Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India easily access and benefit from advanced AI.”

The announcement underscores OpenAI’s growing investment in India’s digital and AI future. As one of the world’s largest technology ecosystems, India continues to be a key focus market for AI innovation and adoption. With initiatives like this, OpenAI is not only expanding access but also empowering a new generation of Indian creators, developers, and thinkers to lead the global AI transformation.

Goa AI Mission 2027 Gains Strategic Support from Sarvam AI

The Government of Goa’s ambition to lead in ethical, responsible, and innovation-led AI adoption has received a major boost as Sarvam AI, India’s first sovereign AI startup, extended its support for the Goa AI Mission 2027. The Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C) hosted a virtual session with Sarvam AI, marking a significant step toward building an AI ecosystem rooted in cultural relevance, local language access, and inclusive design.

Sarvam AI, recently selected under the IndiaAI Mission, is building a full-stack generative AI platform tailored for India. During the session, Sarvam AI showcased key products including Sarvam Samvaad (a conversational AI), Sarvam Arya (an enterprise reasoning engine), and Vistaar (a serverless deployment platform)—all built to support Indian languages and contexts.

The discussion was led by DITE&C Director Shri Kabir Shirgaonkar and Joint Director Dr. Milind Sakhardande, along with SeMT leads Ms. Sharda Katare and Shri Amit Bandekar. Sarvam AI was represented by its Founder Mr. Shubham Arora, along with Guru Prabhaker, Director – Sales, and Prerna Bhandari, Public Sector Lead. The focus was on three pillars: policy collaboration, co-development of citizen-centric AI services, and the establishment of an AI Centre of Excellence in Goa.

A key outcome of the session was the shared interest in building a Konkani Large Language Model (LLM). This language model would contribute significantly to the digital preservation of Goa’s linguistic and cultural heritage while enabling AI-powered services for local communities in their native tongue.

Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, stated, “As the government is working towards creating Centres of Excellence in AI, the goal is to make Goa a hub for applied research, experimentation and industry collaboration. Through the AI Mission 2027, we are laying the groundwork in policy, infrastructure, research, and skills to lead in ethical and responsible AI adoption.”

Shri Kabir Shirgaonkar, Director of DITE&C, added, “Collaborating with industry leaders like Sarvam AI strengthens Goa’s vision of building an AI ecosystem that is not only innovative and sovereign but also deeply rooted in our local languages and cultural context. A key part of this mission is the development of a Konkani Large Language Model, which will help digitally preserve and promote Goa’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage. Their approach ensures that technology benefits every community across the state.”

Goa AI Mission 2027 is already mapping out skill development programs, research infrastructure, and AI governance frameworks. Partnerships like this signal a move from planning to implementation—ensuring that the benefits of AI are not just futuristic, but real, contextual, and accessible to every Goan.
