She was the 2nd Runner-up at Mrs. Deaf India 2023 at the Purple Fest, showcasing her talent and confidence on a national platform. Additionally, she successfully exhibited her work at the International Purple Fest Goa 2024, demonstrating her artistic skills to a global audience.

Miss Bandodkar is not only a talented individual but also a successful entrepreneur. She runs her own handicraft shop, where she creates beautiful artifacts, mehendi designs, and other decorative items. Goa College of Home Science to Host 99th Festival Curated by Festakar Marius Fernandes


The Goa College of Home Science (GCHS) is proud to host the 99th festival curated by renowned Festakar Marius Fernandes, a cultural pioneer known for his inclusive, community-driven festivals that celebrate Goaโ€™s heritage. The milestone event, โ€˜Khoshi Lokanchem Festโ€™ (The Happiness of People), will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the GCHS campus in Panaji.

A Celebration of Inclusivity

With the theme of โ€˜Inclusivity,โ€™ the festival is a heartfelt tribute to the specially-abled community, celebrating their achievements, resilience, and contributions to society. Through performances, interactive sessions, and engaging activities, the event will highlight the talents and inspiring journeys of individuals who have overcome challenges and exceeded expectations.

A major highlight of the festival will be the active participation of GCHS students, showcasing their unique talents and reinforcing the collegeโ€™s commitment to skill-based, inclusive education.

Notable Contributors and Special Highlights

The festival is a collaborative effort led by Principal Prof. Mahesh Pai, with on-ground execution managed by Assistant Professor Sheryl Afonso and College Counsellor Luella Dias. Under the expert guidance of Curator Marius Fernandes and Co-Curator Dr. Gwendolyn de Ornelas, the event promises to be a truly eye-opening experience.

Additionally, Senior Journalist Prakash Kamat will offer a journalistic perspective on the contributions of the differently-abled in the community.

One of the key moments of the festival will be the launch of Nicole Suaresโ€™ debut book, Across Three Continents: The Legacy of Antonetta Fernandes, published by Dr. Gwendolyn de Ornelas. The book chronicles the inspiring journey of Antonetta Fernandes, whose life has shaped Goaโ€™s cultural landscape and continues to influence future generations.

As a special tribute, a painted Ghumot was gifted to Festakar Marius Fernandes by student Soniya Prabhu Chodnekar, symbolizing the spirit of Goa and the festivalโ€™s commitment to inclusivity.

Despite being born with brittle bone disease, which has left him with 90% disability, Dr. Dashgupta has defied all odds to become a beacon of inspiration for millions. With over 1,000 motivational sessions under his belt, he has inspired global leaders and advocated for inclusive workplaces. His relentless efforts in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) have earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Certificate of Excellence from the Global Book of Excellence, England.

Dr. Dashgupta’s impressive resume boasts an array of distinguished titles. As a TEDx speaker, he has shared his inspiring story with a global audience. Furthermore, he has been conferred with the D-30 Disability Impact award, a testament to his tireless efforts in promoting inclusivity.

With 1200 participants, first edition of Rotary Club of Panaji Mid-Town Mathias Panaji Run 2025 gets off to flying start


Panaji: The Rotary Club of Panaji Mid Town Mathias Panaji Run 2025, a charity-driven fitness event that combined health, inclusivity, and community service was held recently.

The event, held outside Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Taleigao, witnessed 1,200 participants that comprised athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and community members.

The inaugural edition attracted elite and passionate runners from across the country, elevating the eventโ€™s competitive appeal

The Mathais Panaji Run included a 10-km timed race, a 5-km walk/run, and a 1-km walk with students from the National Association for the Blind (NAB) and People with Disabilities (PwD).

The event coincided with the Carnival festivities, with participants donning creative outfits in hopes of winning prizes for the Best Dressed Individual and Best Dressed Group.

Winners were awarded cash prizes totaling โ‚น1 lakh across various categories.

Beyond promoting fitness, the run also contributed to Rotaryโ€™s flagship social initiatives that include Saksharata โ€“ Educational grants for deserving students, Sudharata โ€“ financial aid for corrective surgeries, Sahayanta โ€“ nurse training for elderly care, Swachata โ€“ water purifiers for schools in remote areas, and Sanjivani โ€“ medical resources such as oxygen concentrators and fowler beds for those in need.

Rtn. Dattatray W. Kamat, President of the Rotary Club of Panaji Mid Town, expressed his delight at the success of the event. โ€œI am extremely happy that the first-ever Mathias Panaji Run was organized during my tenure. The overwhelming response and the grand success of the event give us the confidence to continue this initiative for years to come. Most importantly, the funds raised will be directed toward great causes, making a meaningful impact on the community,โ€ he said.

While Sheetal Pai Kane, Convenor- Mathias Panaji Run 2025 said, โ€œWe are thrilled with the overwhelming response to the Mathias Panaji Run 2025, with 1,200 participants coming together to celebrate fitness, inclusivity, and community service. Seeing individuals of all ages embrace the spirit of the event was truly heartwarming. This run was not just about fitness, but also about making a difference through Rotaryโ€™s key initiatives,โ€ she said.

โ€œA big thank you to all our participants, sponsors, and volunteers for their incredible support. We look forward to an even bigger and better Edition 2 next year,โ€ Kane added.

Neil Dsilva and Agnelo Desa from Team Yoska played a crucial role in overseeing the run with their technical expertise, ensuring a smooth and well-managed event.

Meanwhile, title sponsors Joe and Mariola Mathias have committed to continuing their association with the event, reaffirming their support as the title sponsors of the Rotary Club of Panaji Mid-Town Mathias Panaji Run in the coming years.

The participants praised the overall organisation of the event.

โ€œThe 10K event I participated in was exceptionally well-organized, starting on time with adequate traffic control and road closures in place. The hydration stations were well spaced, though I didnโ€™t need to use them. The post-run breakfast was well-planned and ideal for recovery. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, ” said Dinesh Heda an Ultra Marathoner from Vasco, who was first Runner-up (50-59 Age Category).

โ€œThe Panaji 10K Run was planned in the simplest wayโ€”a true race experience. Ample aid stations, excellent route management, a well-organized start and award ceremony, and the best post-race refreshments Iโ€™ve ever had made it perfect. I would love to race in this event again, ” said another participant Nihal Ahamad Baig, Hyderabad who came First (30-39 Age Category). He was the winner in the IRONMAN 70.3 Goa in 2022 and 2023.

First-Ever Baattachem Fest (Paddy Festival) in Chinchinim Celebrates Goaโ€™s Agricultural and Cultural Heritage


Chinchinim, Goa โ€“ February 23, 2025: The picturesque village of Chinchinim, Salcette came alive with the vibrant Baattachem Fest, a unique celebration of Goaโ€™s agricultural traditions and rich cultural heritage curated by the festival man of Goa, Festakar Marius Fernandes and hosted by Adv. Agnelo Furtado, this landmark event brought together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate farming, sustainability, and community spirit in an atmosphere of harmony and togetherness.

The festival began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by distinguished guests, including Agnelo and Elaine Furtado, Dean Suresh Kunkalikar, Miguel Braganza, Prakash Kamat, Fr. Victor Ferrao, Alexyz and Festacar Marius Fernandes. This auspicious start set the tone for a day filled with culture, nostalgia and shared learning.

Baattachem Fest welcomed attendees from across Goa, including Corlim, Panjim, Mapusa, Divar, Nuvem, Navelim and other parts of Goa, reinforcing its spirit of inclusivity. The festival actively involved individuals with diverse skills, ensuring that it was a celebration for all, regardless of background or ability, compered and coordinated by festakar team members Prakash Kamat, Dr. Gwendolyn de Ornelas and Dominic Dโ€™Souza.

The stage was artistically decorated by Marcos Dโ€™mello with natural farm tools and locally coordinated by Rozario Rebello.

A key highlight of the festival was its strong commitment to zero-waste practices. By embracing eco-friendly traditions and sustainable living, Baattachem Fest set an example of how cultural celebrations can be environmentally sustainable.

One of the festivalโ€™s most engaging features was the Balรงaoacheo Gozalli, a platform where Miguel Braganza, Professor Carmelito Andrade, Jovito Lopes and Fr George Quadros shared their knowledge and experiences. Visitors were transported back in time with demonstrations of traditional fishing net making, Goan bread preparation, and local delicacy cooking, offering a nostalgic glimpse into Goaโ€™s way of life.

A spectacular Kottieacho Nach (coconut shell dance), conceptualized by Dr. Gwendolyn de Ornelas, captivated the audience, while live musical performances by Oluv and Zagor performance by Santos Rebello, Valentino Baretto and others filled the air with the melodies of classic Konkani songs, celebrating Goaโ€™s vibrant music heritage.

The festival was also a feast for the senses, showcasing Goaโ€™s rich culinary and artisanal traditions. Attendees explored stunning displays of Goan bread, fresh produce, fruits, and traditional percussion instruments.

Interactive workshops on local delicacies such as bread by local baker Elvina Lacerda and koyloreo by Leticia Furtado provided an immersive experience, fostering a sense of belonging and cultural pride.

As festival director Marius Fernandes nears his 100th community festival milestone, he was honoured with a commemorative Momento presented by host Adv. Agnelo Furtado. Reflecting on the festivalโ€™s success, Marius Fernandes shared:

โ€œWe are deeply grateful to our visitors, performers, and everyone who made this event possible. A special thanks to Adv. Agnelo and Elaine Furtado for their generosity in hosting us. This marks our 97th community festival, and we look forward to continuing this journey of celebrating unity.โ€
