First Sunday of Advent โ€“ 30th November 2025: A Season of Hope Began

Written by Nikita Volvoikar

On 30th November 2025, the Catholic Church began the season of Advent, inviting the faithful into a time of reflection, anticipation, and preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ. Advent called us to slow down and ready our hearts spiritually, guiding us through its themes of hope, peace, joy, and love.

The First Sunday of Advent focused on Hope. The pastoral message of the year, โ€œHope does not disappoint,โ€ echoed profoundly as we reflected on where we placed our trust. True hope was found in Christ Jesus, and as the first candle was lit on that day, its warm glow symbolised the unshakable hope we carried through Him. No matter the trials or uncertainties we faced, hope in Christ remained firm and reassuring.

The day encouraged us to trust God more deeply, to stay positive despite challenges, and to believe that brighter days were ahead. Advent reminded us that God continued to work even in our waiting and that His promises were always faithful and true. As we entered the Advent season on 30th November 2025, we were called not to lose hope or become discouraged. Instead, we were invited to pray, to believe, and to trust that God was preparing greater blessings for us.

The First Sunday of Advent became a moment of renewal โ€” a time when our hearts were lifted, our faith strengthened, and our hope restored. It marked the beginning of a sacred journey toward Christmas, filled with expectation and the promise of Godโ€™s enduring love.

A Monument of Faith Rising in Polandโ€™s Konotopa

In a remarkable fusion of faith and architecture, construction has begun in the village of Konotopa on what will soon become Europeโ€™s largest statue of Mother Mary, standing an astounding 55 meters high โ€” surpassing even Rio de Janeiroโ€™s famous Christ the Redeemer.

The initiative, funded by renowned Polish entrepreneur Roman Karkosik, represents more than just a feat of engineering. It is a spiritual landmark โ€” a testament to Polandโ€™s enduring devotion to the Virgin Mary, who holds a deeply revered place in the nationโ€™s Catholic faith.

Once completed, this monumental statue will depict Mother Mary with open arms, symbolizing peace, compassion, and divine protection. The project aims to inspire hope and serve as a place of reflection for visitors from around the world.

Local church leaders and residents have expressed pride and gratitude for this project, calling it โ€œa gift of faith for future generations.โ€

โ€œThis isnโ€™t merely a monument,โ€ said a local priest. โ€œItโ€™s a reminder that faith can rise even higher than stone.โ€

With construction already underway, the statue is expected to become a spiritual beacon, drawing pilgrims, tourists, and art enthusiasts alike to Konotopa โ€” reinforcing Polandโ€™s reputation as one of Europeโ€™s most devoted and faith-filled nations.

When complete, the monument will stand as a global emblem of love, resilience, and unity โ€” a towering testament to the power of belief.

CAG rejoices in the Election of the New Pope Leo XIV

The Catholic Association of Goa (CAG) expresses its profound joy at the election of Pope Leo XIV as the New 267th Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Catholic Church and prays that it ushers in a renewed era of hope and transformation for the Church and the World.

The CAG rejoices that the New Pope, Robert Francis Prevost, 69 years, who was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA on September 14, 1955, and has spent most of his sacerdotal years serving the poorest in Peru, will be able to bring a fresh perspective of the subalterns to the papacy and thus, continue in the footsteps of his much-acclaimed predecessor, Pope Francis, as a Pope of the Commoners.

The CAG hopes that his Pontificate, as his adopted name, Pope Leo XIV suggests, will be inspired by Pope Leo XIII, who was called the Pope of Catholic Social Teaching, so as to promote and uphold the fundamental Human and Christian values, particularly truth, justice, peace, equality and dignity of every human being, irrespective of creed, caste or class.

The CAG prays that the New Pope, a Canon Law Expert, will strengthen and renew the Church functioning, wherever required, to respond effectively to the felt pastoral needs of the Church in the modern World without sacrificing Christโ€™s core teachings and values.

As an accomplished member of the illustrious Augustinian Order, the CAG envisions the Holy Father will strive to build bridges, within as well as without, and endeavor to deepen Communion in the Church at various levels, so as to be a truly Synodal and Evangelical Church.

In view of the manifold modern-day challenges, the CAG, as a duly recognized Association of the Catholic Lay Faithful in the Archdiocese, in communion and solidarity with the Universal Church, urges every Catholic to fervently pray for our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, that he may receive the necessary grace, wisdom and strength to effectively lead the Universal Church in this contemporary Information Age, so as to be truly the Salt, Light and Leaven of the Society and the World. Viva il Papa!
