GOA UNIVERSITY ACHIEVES NAAC A+ GRADE


Goa University has been accredited with an A+ Grade and a CGPA of 3.30 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its recent accreditation cycle. This achievement marks a significant leap from the previous B++ Grade and is the highest ever grade in the history of Goa University.

The A+ Grade reflects the University’s sustained commitment to academic excellence, research advancement, quality infrastructure, and student-centric initiatives. This milestone was made possible through the collective efforts of the teaching and non-teaching staff, students, alumni, and the unwavering support of the State Government.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Harilal B. Menon expressed immense pride and gratitude, stating, “this achievement is a testimony to the hard work, integrity and dedication of the entire University fraternity. It inspires us to aim higher and fulfill our vision of becoming a globally recognized centre of excellence.

Dr Roque Pinto Chairs Scientific Sessions at International Cytology Congress in Italy


Dr Roque G Wiseman Pinto, renowned Professor of Pathology and former Dean at Goa University, proudly represented India at the prestigious 22nd International Congress of Cytology held in Florence, Italy, from May 11 to 15 at the historic Fortezza da Basso. The global event, jointly organized by the International Academy of Cytology (IAC) and SIAPEC, brought together 750 delegates from 66 countries, including a contingent of 25 Indian participants, highlighting the global collaboration in the evolving field of cytopathology.

Invited as Chairman and Faculty, Dr Pinto was entrusted with leading three key scientific sessions, which focused on:

  • Salivary Gland Cytopathology (Milan System)
  • Cytopathology of Infectious Diseases
  • Fungal Infections in Cytology

Beyond his chairing responsibilities, Dr Pinto was an active participant in several high-level meetings of the IAC (International Academy of Cytology) and the European Federation of Cytology Societies (EFCS), contributing valuable perspectives on behalf of the Indian medical community. Notably, he was also a speaker at the IAC Social Media Symposium, where he addressed the global impact of cytopathology, its advantages over histopathology, and the growing role of digital engagement in India’s pathology landscape.

The congress was led by Dr Fernando Schmitt (Luxembourg) as the Congress President, with Dr Guido Fadda (Italy) heading the Local Organising Committee. Other distinguished Indian faculty members at the event included Dr Radhika S, Dr B Rekhi, and Dr Nalini Gupta, further showcasing India’s prominence in the field.

The conference, accredited by the IAC, EFCS, and the Italian Society of Pathology, served as a vibrant platform for exchange of cutting-edge research, technological innovation, and international collaboration. The next edition of the Congress will be held in South Korea in 2028.

Central University of Gujarat’s Prof. Manish Attends G20 Workshop at Goa University


Prof. Manish, Dean of the School of International Studies (SIS) at the Central University of Gujarat (CUG), participated in an authors’ workshop on “G20 and the Global South” held at Goa University on March 17, 2025. The workshop brought together esteemed scholars and experts to discuss and deliberate on the critical issues surrounding the G20 and its implications for the Global South.

As a renowned expert in international studies, Prof. Manish’s participation in the workshop underscored the Central University of Gujarat’s commitment to fostering intellectual exchange and collaboration on pressing global issues. The workshop provided a platform for scholars to share their research and insights, promoting a deeper understanding of the complex relationships between the G20, the Global South, and the broader international community.

Goa University Assistant Professor Receives Prestigious Prime Minister’s Early Career Research Grant


In a significant achievement, Dr. Vikash Yadav, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology at the School of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Goa University, has been awarded the prestigious Prime Minister’s Early Career Research Grant. This esteemed grant, amounting to ₹71.3 lakhs, has been conferred upon Dr. Yadav by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India.

Dr. Yadav’s awarded project focuses on parental-specific genome organization in the regulation of genomic imprinting, a critical area in plant molecular biology. This research has the potential to provide new insights into hybridization barriers and seed development, crucial for improving agricultural yield and food security.
