Goa Senior Women’s Cricket Team Clinch Victory Over Uttarakhand in T20 Trophy Opener

The Goa Cricket Association’s Senior Women’s Team kicked off their campaign in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy (Elite Group) 2025 with a remarkable victory over Uttarakhand by 13 runs. The match, which took place on Tuesday, saw a resilient Goa side deliver a well-rounded performance to defend a modest total of 121 and bowl out the opposition in the full 20 overs.

After being put in to bat, Goa posted 121/9 on the board, with a quickfire knock of 24 runs off just 11 balls from Purvaja Verlekar giving the innings a much-needed late push. Despite early setbacks, the team managed to string together vital contributions that helped them reach a competitive score.

In the second innings, Goa’s bowlers rose to the occasion with a disciplined and aggressive display. Tanaya Naik emerged as the star performer with the ball, finishing with figures of 4 wickets for 19 runs in just 3 overs, earning her the Player of the Match award. She was supported brilliantly by Shrey, who kept things tight and claimed 3 wickets for just 16 runs in her 4 overs.

Uttarakhand, despite a few solid individual efforts, could not build any lasting partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 108. Goa’s fielding and bowling unit maintained pressure throughout the chase, never letting the opposition gain momentum.

The Goa Cricket Association’s Managing Committee congratulated the Senior Women’s Team on this fantastic opening win and extended their best wishes for the rest of the tournament. This strong start not only boosts team morale but also signals Goa’s intent to make a deep run in this year’s competition.

With teamwork, discipline, and standout individual performances, the Goa Women’s Cricket Team is off to a flying start in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.

CM Pramod Sawant Assures Full Support to Newly-Elected Goa Cricket Association Committee

Written by Intern Queeny George M.H, Team Allycaral

The newly-elected Goa Cricket Association (GCA) managing committee, led by former Ranji Trophy cricketer Mahesh Dessai, received a strong assurance of support from Goa’s Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant.

In a courtesy meeting at his official residence on Monday, Sawant congratulated the new office bearers and said:

“As far as Goan cricket is concerned, I backed the committee earlier and will continue to support the new group.”

The elections saw a 6-0 clean sweep for the panel led by former presidents Chetan Dessai, Vinod Phadke, Vipul Phadke, and Suraj Lotlikar. Mahesh Dessai defeated rival candidate Mahesh Candolkar to take over as president.

Outgoing president Vipul Phadke highlighted the CM’s assurance, stating:

“The state government and all departments will support us.”

Chetan Dessai also added that the meeting with the CM reflected unity within the committee, with Sawant being “very supportive.”

Later in the day, Mahesh Dessai and his team formally assumed charge of GCA affairs at the association’s Porvorim headquarters.

The elections took place amid political and sporting dynamics, as the rival panel ‘Parivartan’, backed by BCCI joint secretary and BJP functionary Rohan Gauns Dessai, was defeated despite enjoying state government support previously.

With this new leadership in place and government backing reaffirmed, cricket in Goa looks set for a phase of renewed energy and growth.
