Swami Vivekanand Vidyaprasarak Mandal’s College of Commerce Hosts Inter Higher Secondary Elocution Competition on “AI and the Changing World”

Swami Vivekanand Vidyaprasarak Mandal’s College of Commerce, Bori-Ponda, successfully organized an Inter Higher Secondary Elocution Competition at the Ponda Taluka level on November 13, 2025, held on the college campus with the thought-provoking theme, “AI and the Changing World.” The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of various higher secondary schools across Ponda Taluka, who delved into multiple aspects of artificial intelligence and its growing influence on society.

In his inaugural address, Principal Professor Achut P. Pednekar congratulated all participants and emphasized the increasing relevance of AI in education and professional life. He encouraged students to leverage AI as a tool for personal and academic growth while cautioning against over-reliance to preserve human creativity, critical thinking, and independent judgment.

The competition was judged by Ms. Savari Sainekar, Computer Teacher at M.F.S’s Higher Secondary School, and Mrs. Sonia Desai, Librarian of the host college. Both judges praised participants for their confidence, well-researched speeches, and eloquent delivery. Ms. Sainekar highlighted that “AI is not something to be feared but a valuable asset that can help us achieve our best potential,” while Mrs. Desai encouraged students to embrace learning as a lifelong journey.

Following a series of compelling speeches, the winners were announced. Mast. Lysander Dias from Smt. Prabhavati Ankush Shirodkar Higher Secondary School secured the First Prize, while Miss Honey Priya from Swami Vivekanand Vidyaprasarak Mandal’s Higher Secondary School was awarded the Second Prize. Miss Isha Borkar, also from Smt. Prabhavati Ankush Shirodkar Higher Secondary School, won the Third Prize, and Mast. Adil Hassan Momin from Dr. K.B. Hedgewar Higher Secondary School received a Consolation Prize. All participants were recognized with certificates of participation for their efforts and enthusiasm.

The programme concluded with Principal Prof. Pednekar once again congratulating winners and participants, reinforcing the importance of using technology wisely. The event was anchored skillfully by Ms. Florencia Souza, College Counsellor, and concluded with a formal vote of thanks and a group photograph, marking the end of an intellectually stimulating and successful event that ignited critical dialogue about the future of AI.

JCI Pilgao Elite Celebrates World Environment Day with Tree Plantation & Student Competitions


Pilgao, Goa | June 5, 2025 – In a meaningful celebration of World Environment Day, JCI Pilgao Elite, in collaboration with the Goa State Biodiversity Board, organized a series of impactful activities aimed at spreading environmental awareness and engaging the local youth in climate action.

This year’s theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally”, inspired a full-day program that combined hands-on activities, creative expression, and public speaking to emphasize the importance of sustainability and plastic-free living.

Tree Plantation Drive at Mahadev Temple

The event began with a tree plantation ceremony at the historic Mahadev Temple in Pilgao. Members of JCI Pilgao Elite, along with community participants, came together to plant saplings and promote greener surroundings. The initiative reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and community involvement.

Elocution Competition: Young Voices Speak Out

Following the plantation drive, an elocution competition was held for students from 5th to 7th standard, centered around the theme “Ending Plastic Globally.” A total of 15 students showcased their oratory skills, raising their voices on the pressing issue of plastic pollution and suggesting creative solutions for a plastic-free future.

The competition was judged by JC Shruti Parab Desai of JCI Bicholim, who also took the opportunity to encourage and motivate the students to become active agents of change. The competition served as a platform for young minds to express their concerns, hopes, and visions for a cleaner planet.

Bag Painting Competition: Creativity Meets Sustainability

To further engage students and reinforce the message, a cloth bag painting competition was organized for students from 8th to 10th standard. Also based on the year’s theme, this activity saw another 15 students unleash their artistic talents in designing eco-friendly messages on reusable cloth bags.

The competition was judged by Mudrika Chari and Saisha Fulari, who applauded the efforts and creativity of the participants. In solidarity with the students, JCI Pilgao Elite members themselves joined in, painting cloth bags to show their support for the cause.

The event was smoothly compered by JC Saujanya Parab Gaonkar, ensuring a seamless flow of activities. The overall program was directed and led by Project Director JC Jyotsna Parab Gaonkar, whose coordination brought together the various elements of the day’s celebration.

A formal vote of thanks was delivered by Secretary JC Swati Shirodkar, who appreciated the efforts of all participants, judges, volunteers, and guests.

In honor of World Environment Day 2025, the Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers (India), is hosting an Elocution Competition that challenges the next generation of leaders to tackle one of the world’s most pressing environmental issues — Plastic Pollution. The competition is set to take place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Surendrababu Timblo Convention Hall, Panjim, and promises to be an exciting platform for final-year students from all colleges across Goa to showcase their oratory skills and raise awareness about environmental issues.

Theme: #BeatPlasticPollution: Ending Global Pollution

The theme for this year’s competition, #BeatPlasticPollution: Ending Global Pollution, reflects the urgent need to address the overwhelming presence of plastic in our environment. Plastic pollution has reached alarming levels globally, causing devastating harm to wildlife, ecosystems, and even human health. The competition invites students to use their voices as powerful tools to speak up against plastic pollution and offer innovative solutions for a cleaner, greener future.

The preliminary round of the competition will begin at 10:00 AM, where participants will present their speeches based on the theme. Finalists will be selected based on the content, delivery, and impact of their presentations, and will move on to the Valedictory Function later in the day.

Keynote Speaker and Special Guests

The event will feature an esteemed lineup of speakers, with Padma Shri Dr. Sharad Kale, a Former Scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and Special Advisor to the Chief Minister of Goa, delivering the keynote address. Dr. Kale’s vast expertise in scientific research and environmental conservation will inspire students to think critically about the impact of pollution and the role of technology and innovation in solving these challenges.

The event will be presided over by Mr. Shrinivas Dempo, President of GCCI, and Mr. Anwar Khan from the Institution of Engineers (India) will also grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
