Goa | July 11, 2025 โ€” In a landmark recognition of academic excellence and technological innovation, Goa University has been conferred the โ€˜Best University (National) Awardโ€™ at the National Geospatial Awards 2025. This recognition places the university among Indiaโ€™s top 10 institutions advancing geospatial education and promoting open-source GIS technologies.

The award will be formally presented on July 17, 2025, during the Open Source GIS Day celebrations hosted at IIT Bombay. The event is part of the FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) GIS project under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), led by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Adding to Goaโ€™s pride, Dr. Ramrao Wagh, Associate Professor at the Goa Business School, has been selected for the โ€˜National Geospatial Emerging Faculty Fellow Awardโ€™ in the Interdisciplinary Category. His commendation reflects his creative application of Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies in both academic instruction and interdisciplinary research.

โ€œThis honour not only celebrates institutional achievement but also highlights the importance of using GIS for teaching, research, and community development,โ€ said Dr. Wagh.
