Students of PM SHRI GHS Morpirla Celebrate PM Modi’s Birthday with Unique Pledge and Green Commitment

In a heartfelt celebration, the students of PM SHRI GHS Morpirla marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday in a uniquely meaningful way. Demonstrating unity, creativity, and respect, they formed the number “75” using their own bodies—symbolizing both the PM’s age and India’s enduring spirit. Alongside this formation, they created beautifully crafted greeting cards, pouring their thoughts and wishes into colorful expressions of gratitude and appreciation for the Prime Minister.

But the event was more than just a celebration. It was a moment of commitment and awareness. As part of the nationwide Seva Pakhwada initiative running from September 17 to October 2, the students took both a physical and digital pledge to work toward a cleaner, greener India. They vowed to minimize waste, avoid the use of single-use plastics, and inspire their communities to participate in cleanliness efforts.

What made their pledge stand out was their focus on combining action with innovation—emphasizing the role of technology in spreading awareness and making environmental change accessible. The decor, entirely handmade, celebrates not only traditional craftsmanship but also the values of green living and mindful creativity.

The centerpiece of the design features a beautifully woven palm leaf basket, surrounded by diamond-shaped palm leaf motifs, all crafted with patience, precision, and a deep respect for nature. This aesthetic choice not only minimizes environmental impact but also brings a natural, earthy elegance to any setting.

Poornay Rivankar, known for her dedication to artistic and sustainable practices, collaborated with Sabina Da Cunha, a creative force in natural decor, to produce an arrangement that reflects Goa’s cultural richness and the growing movement toward eco-friendly lifestyles.

Morpirla, Goa | July 12, 2025: In a heartfelt celebration of World Paper Bag Day, the students of PM SHRI GHS Morpirla came together to promote a crucial environmental message — “Say No to Plastic, Yes to Paper Bags.” With rising concerns over climate change, global warming, and the devastating impact of plastic pollution, their initiative stood as a beacon of hope and action.

In a vibrant school-wide activity, students handcrafted paper bags and chanted eco-conscious slogans, calling attention to the growing need for sustainable alternatives to plastic. The activity was more than a creative workshop — it was a powerful tool of awareness and education.

Plastic waste, one of the leading contributors to environmental degradation, harms wildlife, pollutes our oceans and landscapes, and takes centuries to decompose. Recognising this, the young changemakers of PM SHRI GHS Morpirla took it upon themselves to advocate for sustainable living and environmentally responsible behavior.

The initiative was supported by teachers and staff, who joined the students in promoting the use of biodegradable alternatives. By engaging in such hands-on and purposeful activities, the school is fostering environmental consciousness from a young age.

“This is not just about making paper bags,” said one of the participating teachers. “It’s about shaping mindsets, instilling values, and making sure our students understand the real impact of everyday choices.”
