Market Mania 2025 Ignites Innovation and Women Empowerment at Dempo College


Panaji, Goa โ€“ The Department of Economics at Srinivassa Sinai Dempo College of Commerce & Economics (Autonomous) created waves of change with the successful hosting of Market Mania 2025, in collaboration with Shagun Women Empowerment. This vibrant event became a space where creativity, commerce, and community spirit came together โ€” offering a platform for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and student entrepreneurs to showcase their products and ideas.

The event was inaugurated by Principal Prof. Dr. Manoj S. Kamat, who praised the initiative for merging learning with social responsibility. Present at the occasion were Vice Principal Prof. Sengeeta Chakrabarty, HoD Prof. Deepali Churi, and faculty members Asst. Prof. Stesa Pereira and Asst. Prof. Gouri Pankar, along with entrepreneur and SHG coordinator Ms. Mansi Govekar.

In her address, Prof. Churi emphasized the significance of such experiential learning, stating,

โ€œThese platforms donโ€™t just promote entrepreneurial thinking among students โ€” they provide a real opportunity for SHGs and women entrepreneurs to grow.โ€

Highlights of Market Mania 2025:

  • 27 vibrant stalls, including:
    • 24 by SHG women from various parts of Goa
    • 3 food stalls run by Dempo College students showcasing their innovation in food and presentation
  • Products ranged from:
    • Traditional Goan novelties and handmade crafts
    • Potted plants, crochet items, flower arrangements
    • Paintings, soft toys, sarees, dreamcatchers
    • Scented candles, coconut oil, jewellery, baked treats, and more

The bazaar-like ambience created a delightful shopping experience for students, faculty, and visitors. A distinctive aspect of this yearโ€™s event was the active involvement of students in assisting SHG entrepreneurs โ€” helping design brochures and marketing materials to boost their visibility and stall appeal.

Faculty-in-charge Ms. Stesa Pereira and Ms. Gouri Pankar, along with entrepreneur Ms. Mansi Govekar from Bicholim, were instrumental in coordinating the event and ensuring smooth participation from SHG members.

Principal Prof. Kamat summed up the spirit of the event by stating,

โ€œMarket Mania is more than just a college event โ€” it’s a movement. A testimony to our dedication to skill-based education, entrepreneurship, and women’s empowerment.โ€

The formal signing took place during a special function hosted in Belgaum, bringing together key academic leaders and faculty members from both institutions.

The objective of this collaboration is to enhance academic exchange, research collaborations, and promote knowledge-sharing practices that benefit students and faculty alike. This MoU marks the beginning of a strategic partnership that leverages the strengths of both institutions to co-create innovative educational and research opportunities.

LeapUp-Dempo Initiative Set to Revolutionize Skill-Based Learning at Srinivassa Sinai Dempo College

Through a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mumbai-based edtech firm LeapUp, the college has launched an initiative designed to seamlessly integrate 30-hour online certification courses into the existing academic curriculum.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in reshaping the educational landscape of Goa. โ€œThis is more than just an upgrade โ€” it’s a transformational move toward future-ready education,โ€ said Prof. Dr. Manoj Kamat, Principal of Dempo College. The primary goal? To ensure students graduate with both academic knowledge and job-market-ready skills.

Courses โ€” all offered at no additional cost โ€” span high-demand domains like Artificial Intelligence, Equity Research, Stock Trading, Six Sigma, Financial Modelling, Lateral Thinking, and Retail Business. Students will benefit from a flexible curriculum structure that includes both compulsory and optional modules, with audit options for extra learning.

LeapUp, co-founded by CA Harshit Shah and Ronak Gala, brings to the table a powerful LMS platform, a curated lineup of industry veterans as mentors, and rigorous assessments to monitor attendance and progress. This structure ensures a high standard of engagement and skill acquisition for every student.
