Written by Intern Rency Gomes ||Team Allycaral

The second match of the World Legends Pro T20 League came alive with a star-studded contest as Shane Watson’s Pune Panthers took on Thisara Perera’s Gurugram Thunders. Featuring global stars, Indian icons, and former World Cup winners, the encounter delivered high-intensity cricket, culminating in a sensational chase led by Martin Guptill.

After winning the toss, Gurugram Thunders elected to bat first and posted a competitive 159 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Ross Taylor anchored the innings with a composed knock, steadying the side after early setbacks. Despite losing wickets, the Thunders maintained momentum through the middle overs.

Dwayne Bravo applied pressure with two quick wickets, but Taylor found able support in Colin de Grandhomme. The duo stitched together a crucial partnership that stabilised the innings and ensured Gurugram reached a defendable total.

In response, Pune Panthers suffered an early blow with the dismissal of Shane Watson. Guptill, however, counterattacked with authority, anchoring a vital 72-run partnership to bring the Panthers back on course. His aggressive strokeplay kept the run rate in check and put the Thunders under constant pressure.

Though Pune lost a few wickets during the middle overs, Afghan all-rounder Samiullah Shinwari made a telling contribution. Earlier, he had struck twice with the ball, dismissing both Gurugram openers, and later added valuable runs with a quick 21 off 10 balls.

Guptill remained the driving force of the chase, smashing 68 runs off just 28 deliveries to guide Pune Panthers past the target with four wickets in hand, sealing an impressive opening victory in the tournament.

Bengaluru, December 26, 2025: Delhi’s batting star Virat Kohli once again demonstrated his white-ball dominance with a blistering 53 not out off 29 deliveries in their Vijay Hazare Trophy clash against Gujarat at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

In his second domestic List A match in 15 years, Kohli’s innings featured 11 fours and a six, yielding a remarkable strike rate of 182.76. Delhi reached 62 for one early in their innings, setting the tone for a commanding performance.

High-Flying India Aim to Dominate South Africa in Second T20I at New Chandigarh

Mullanpur, New Chandigarh: India will look to tighten their grip on the ongoing T20I series as they face South Africa in the second match at the New Chandigarh Cricket Stadium on Thursday. After a commanding performance in the series opener, the Men in Blue enter the contest with momentum, confidence, and home advantage firmly on their side.

In the first T20I, Hardik Pandya was the standout performer, blasting a quickfire 59 off 28 balls and contributing with the ball to dismantle South Africa’s middle order. India’s pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, delivered with early breakthroughs that left the visitors struggling to recover.

With a batting lineup that runs deep until number eight, India have the luxury of multiple power-hitters capable of accelerating at any stage. The team is expected to retain its winning combination, maintaining stability as they eye a comprehensive series win.

Gill Under the Radar

Shubman Gill’s T20 form since his Asia Cup return has been inconsistent, making his role at the top critical. Despite modest scores, team management continues to back him, hoping he can turn starts into significant contributions. A strong innings from Gill could add immense weight to India’s already formidable top order featuring in-form batter Abhishek Sharma, India’s current No.1 T20I player.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Chance to Settle

Captain Suryakumar Yadav, navigating a year of fluctuating form, will look to bring stability and explosive middle-order firepower as India prepare for their T20 World Cup title defence on home soil.

South Africa Face Steep Climb

South Africa suffered a dramatic 74-run collapse in the first match and will need quick recalibration. With little turnaround time, the visitors must build partnerships, rotate strike efficiently, and counter India’s multi-dimensional attack.

However, India’s balanced side, fearless approach, and favourable conditions in New Chandigarh make a South African comeback an uphill battle.

Match starts at 7 PM IST.
