Rotary Club of Miramar Honors Unsung Heroes for 25 Years of Selfless Service


In a heartwarming ceremony, the Rotary Club of Miramar recognized the remarkable contributions of five outstanding individuals who have dedicated over 25 years of selfless service to their respective fields. This special event, organized by the Rotary Club, aimed to acknowledge the invaluable impact of these everyday heroes on their community.

The awardees, who were honored for their tireless efforts, included:

  • Shri. Demani Gangaram Kakatkar, a milk supplier who has been serving the community for over two and a half decades.
  • Smt. Josefina Vaz, a fisherwoman who has been contributing to the local fishing industry for over 25 years.
  • Shri. Pravin Dina Murgoankar, a newspaper supplier who has been delivering news to the community for over 25 years.
  • Shri. Krishnanath Gangaram Chari, a clerk at Mahalaxmi Temple who has been serving the temple and its devotees for over 25 years.
  • Shri. Soma Narayan Dhargalkar, a cemetery helper who has been providing essential services to the community for over 25 years.

During the ceremony, the awardees were presented with cash prizes and certificates by the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. Vinaykumar Pai Raikar (PDG). Dr. Raikar commended the efforts of the honorees, emphasizing the significance of their roles in the community and encouraging them to serve as role models for future generations.

The event was attended by various club members, including President Rtn. Siddharth Deshpande, Secretary Rtn. Samrat Kamat, and Vocational Service Director Rtn. Shantendu Mohite. The ceremony was expertly hosted by Rtn. Trupti Patil.

Vivekananda Angel Awards: Honoring Selfless Individuals Who Make a Difference


In a heartwarming ceremony, the second edition of the Vivekananda Angel Awards (VAA) recognized the remarkable contributions of four individuals who have dedicated their lives to serving others. The event, organized by Ethernet Xpress Foundation, took place on January 21 at the Thomas Stephens Konkani Kendr in Porvorim.

The four awardees were chosen for their selfless work in various fields:

  1. Durgadas Parab: Founder of Urja and Akshay Urja Foundation, which provides scholarships to needy students, empowering them to pursue their dreams.
  2. Victor Hugo Gomes: A museum curator who has dedicated his life to supporting artisans and preserving dying arts and skills, keeping Goa’s cultural heritage alive.
  3. Naman Sawant Dhawaskar: A tireless worker who supports the children of the Katkari tribe through Samvedna Kendr, providing them with education, healthcare, and a chance at a better life.
  4. Sandeep Parab: A compassionate individual who rehabilitates destitute and abandoned women through his organization, Jeevanand, giving them a second chance at life.

Chief Guest Libia Lobo Sardesai, a freedom fighter, urged the audience to support the awardees in their community service. She shared inspiring stories from the life of Swami Vivekananda, emphasizing the importance of compassion and empathy towards the poor and underprivileged.

The event was attended by Director of Thomas Stephens Konkani Kendr, Dr. Pandurang Phaldessai, Guest of Honour Vijay Patil, and Sagar Govekar of Ethernet Xpress Foundation. Pravin Sabnis introduced the awardees, while Pranita Dekhne compered the function. Mahendra Tiwari proposed the vote of thanks.
