Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch a new, affordable MacBook model in 2025, featuring the powerful A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro โ at an astonishing starting price of just โน52,500.
Industry insiders suggest that this model will combine Appleโs high-end smartphone chip technology with the convenience of macOS, aiming to make MacBooks more accessible to students, professionals, and everyday users who want premium performance without the traditional MacBook price tag.
The A18 Pro chip is known for its lightning-fast processing speeds, advanced graphics capabilities, and exceptional power efficiency โ all of which could make this new MacBook a game-changer for the entry-level laptop market.
Analysts believe this launch could pose a serious challenge to Windows-based ultrabooks in the same price range, especially in India, where Appleโs MacBooks have often been seen as premium luxury devices.
Apple has not yet confirmed the official launch date, but sources indicate the device could be announced in late 2025, possibly alongside updates to the iPad and AirPods lineup.
If priced as reported, this could mark Appleโs boldest move yet to expand its user base in emerging markets.
In a bid to combat road mishaps and fatalities, Goa is embracing technology on its streets. Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday announced that AI-powered traffic signals will soon control traffic flow at 91 crucial junctions across the state.
This initiative, set to roll out in a phased manner over the next 6โ8 months, is part of a broader campaign to improve road safety. Alongside these intelligent signals, a new statewide road signage system will also be implemented. The Public Works Department is expected to float tenders for the project shortly.
Data Shows Progressโbut Challenges Remain
Minister Godinho revealed that Goa has seen a 14% decrease in road accidents this quarterโprogress attributed to improvements at 80% of identified black spots across the state.
Yet, he was quick to note that infrastructure alone cannot prevent accidents.
โWe are taking steps, and we are serious about reducing the accident rate,โ he said. โBut if you choose to drive at high speed or party into the night and drive unfitโhow can I stop that? Youโll be a bomb on the road.โ
Expanding the Safety Council
To strengthen coordination, the State Road Safety Council is being expanded. New permanent members now include:
Superintendents of Police (North & South Goa)
Officials from the Electricity Department
Representatives from the Health Department
Medical experts from Goa Medical College
This broader scope is intended to create a holistic, cross-sectoral approach to road safety.
Road Safety Week & Public Awareness
The state is also gearing up for Road Safety Week, which will feature awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and public institutions. The government aims to instil safer road habits, especially among the youth.
Digging Dilemma and Restoration Plans
Acknowledging public frustration over road digging, the minister confirmed that restoration work will resume after the monsoon. Many of the ongoing diggings are linked to utilities and inter-departmental projects.
Whatโs Next?
The tendering process for AI traffic signals is expected to commence soon, targeting high-density areas first. The combined use of smart technology and policy reform signals Goaโs commitment to safer roads.
However, the human factor remains central. As Minister Godinho aptly put it, โTechnology is just one toolโreal change starts with responsible citizens.โ
Porvorim, August 11, 2025 โ Goa is preparing to soar into a new era of technological innovation with the announcement of a Drone Design and Aero Centre at Quitol, a unique facility where drones can be designed, tested, and launched in a regulated sandbox environment. This initiative is a key component of the stateโs progressive Drone Policy 2022, announced by Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte.
Set to be part of the proposed Tourism Aero Hub, the new centre will make Goa a national beacon for drone design, development, and deployment. โThe Centre will be uniquely positioned in India and support next-generation innovation in drone technology,โ said Minister Khaunte during the announcement.
๐น Deep Local Roots and Global Vision
Goa’s drone policy, launched in December 2022, aims to create a full-fledged ecosystem supporting design, manufacturing, testing, and training. ๐น Certified Training & Women Empowerment
The Goa IT Department has initiated the empanelment of DGCA-approved agencies to offer certified drone pilot and technician training, opening career pathways for Goan youth.
Additionally, aligned with the national Drone Didi scheme, Goa plans to equip women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) with drone technology and entrepreneurial skills. These groups will be empowered to offer services across agriculture, mining, healthcare, and tourism.
๐น Citizen-Centric Applications and ‘Make in India’
The drone policy is not just about techโit’s about impact. The government encourages the use of drones for services that touch everyday lives:
Precision agriculture
Land mapping in mining and forestry
Medical delivery in remote areas
Tourism videography and promotion
All these initiatives contribute to the โMake in Indiaโ agenda, focusing on self-reliance and indigenous technology development.

In a game-changing move toward digital inclusivity, the Kerala government has launched K-FON (Kerala Fibre Optic Network)โIndiaโs first state-owned broadband service. The โน1,500 crore project aims to offer affordable, high-speed internet access to every citizen, especially in remote and underserved areas.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, while launching the service, emphasized that universal internet access is fundamental to Keralaโs vision of a knowledge-driven society. โNo one will be left behind,โ he declared, even citing Idamalakudy, a tribal settlement deep in Keralaโs forests, as part of the K-FON network.
The CM noted that K-FON is not just about technologyโit’s about equity, access, and empowerment.
๐งฉ How K-FON Works: The Infrastructure
The project involves the deployment of a 35,000 km optical fibre network across Kerala, funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
K-FON is being rolled out in two phases:
Phase 1: Connecting 30,000+ government institutions
Phase 2: Providing free internet to economically disadvantaged families and subsidised broadband to others
๐ก Affordable Plans for Everyone
K-FON offers tiered plans to ensure accessibility:
โน299/month (excluding GST)
Speed: 20 Mbps
3,000 GB data cap
โน1,249/month (excluding GST)
Speed: 250 Mbps
5,000 GB data cap
The goal? To match private-sector quality without the exploitative pricing.
๐ฅ Who Benefits?
20 lakh+ people to receive free internet access
Over 14,000 households will be connected in the initial phase
All service providers will have non-discriminatory access to the network
๐ Why It Matters
K-FON is Keralaโs alternative model to the corporate-run telecom sectorโoffering the same quality at much lower prices. It aligns with the larger objective of bridging the digital divide, especially for:
Students and job seekers in rural areas
Families who cannot afford private internet plans
Small businesses and entrepreneurs needing reliable broadband
๐จ๏ธ A New Standard in Public Internet Infrastructure
โK-FON is our way of freeing people from digital exploitation and giving them the infrastructure to thrive in a knowledge economy,โ said CM Vijayan.
๐ Looking Ahead
K-FON is more than a broadband serviceโit’s a social innovation. By laying down public digital infrastructure, Kerala is setting a national precedent for affordable, accessible, and equitable internet.
Whether you’re in a forest village or a bustling city, K-FON promises to connect you to the future.
