Goan Filmmaker,  Miransha Naik Returns 14 Awards in Protest Against ESG Grading

Written by Intern Queeny George M.H, Team Allycaral

Goan filmmaker Miransha Naik has taken a bold and unprecedented step by returning all 14 awards his film Juze won at the recent Goa State Film Festival, organised by the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG). His decision stems from a serious protest against the ESG’s evaluation of the same film as ‘C’ grade in its long-delayed Film Finance Scheme — a move that has raised eyebrows and sparked debate across the Indian film community.

Juze, a critically acclaimed Konkani film that brought international attention to Goa’s regional cinema, had swept the awards at the state-level event, establishing Naik’s voice as one of the strongest in contemporary Konkani storytelling. However, the filmmaker expressed deep disappointment when the ESG, which had just celebrated his work, assigned it the lowest grade possible in its finance evaluation process.

This grading has significant implications — not just financial, but symbolic — as it determines whether filmmakers receive state support to continue their work. For Naik, it was a contradiction too stark to ignore. Returning the awards, he stated that such grading undermines not only his film’s merit but also the broader credibility of the ESG’s support for homegrown cinema.

The move has reignited concerns over transparency, consistency, and fairness within the ESG’s evaluation framework. For many in the regional and national film industry, Naik’s protest is a wake-up call — a demand for clearer policies and genuine encouragement for films that aim to elevate Konkani cinema on the global stage.

As the story unfolds, it remains to be seen whether this protest will lead to any institutional change. What’s clear is that Miransha Naik has made a powerful statement: recognition means little without respect and integrity in the process that grants it.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence to Star in Martin Scorsese’s “Ghost Story What Happens At Night”

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are officially set to co-star in Martin Scorsese’s next film, What Happens At Night, a chilling adaptation of the novel by the same name. The project brings together three cinematic powerhouses in what is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films in development.

The story, written for the screen by Patrick Marber (Closer), centers on a married couple who travel to Europe to adopt a child. What starts as a hopeful journey takes a darker turn when they check into a cavernous, deteriorating hotel teeming with eccentric guests and haunted histories. The novel, known for its haunting atmosphere and psychological depth, will be brought to life under Scorsese’s visionary direction.

This marks the first time Jennifer Lawrence will work with Scorsese as a director. She is currently set to appear in the feature film Die, My Love, which Scorsese is producing. DiCaprio, on the other hand, has been a longtime collaborator with the legendary filmmaker, most recently in Killers of the Flower Moon. Their partnership has consistently delivered critically acclaimed and commercially successful films, making this new project all the more exciting for fans.

Apple Original Films is currently in discussions to finance and produce the movie, with Studiocanal also in talks to co-produce. If finalized, this would mark another high-profile project for Apple, which has steadily built a reputation for backing bold, auteur-driven films.

Outside of this project, DiCaprio will next be seen in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, while Lawrence is set to star in the already buzzworthy Die, My Love. Meanwhile, Scorsese is also juggling several other projects, including a Hawaii-set crime drama rumored to feature Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

What Happens At Night promises a return to the kind of psychological storytelling that Scorsese excels at—layered, immersive, and laced with tension. With a stellar cast, a celebrated screenwriter, and one of the greatest directors at the helm, the film is poised to be a standout release in the years ahead.

Deepika Padukone Walks Out of Kalki 2898 AD Sequel, Citing Commitment Issues

Written by Intern Queeny George M.H, Team Allycaral

Panaji / Mumbai — In a major update for fans of Kalki 2898 AD, production house Vyjayanthi Movies has officially confirmed that Deepika Padukone will not star in the sequel of the big-budget sci-fi epic.

The actress, who played a pivotal role alongside Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Disha Patani in the first installment, was expected to reprise her character in the continuation. However, the makers have now announced her exit, citing “lack of commitment” as a factor.

This isn’t the first time Deepika has walked away from a major project recently. A few months ago, she also exited Prabhas’ upcoming film Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Reports suggested disagreements over her working conditions, including demands for an 8-hour workday, a share of the film’s profits, and avoiding dialogue delivery in Telugu. These conditions reportedly clashed with the filmmaker’s vision, and Deepika was later replaced by Triptii Dimri.

Her departure from Kalki 2898 AD is being seen as a setback for fans who admired her pairing with Prabhas in the futuristic saga. Meanwhile, speculation is rife about who will step into her role in the sequel.

With Triptii Dimri rising in prominence and joining several high-profile projects, industry watchers note a significant shift in casting dynamics within Bollywood and pan-Indian cinema.

While Deepika’s absence from Kalki 2898 AD sequel will be felt, the project is expected to continue its ambitious vision under Vyjayanthi Movies with a refreshed cast lineup.

“The Bads of Bollywood” Premiere: Aryan Khan’s Directorial Debut Turns into a Star-Studded Spectacle

In a city that has seen its fair share of glamorous nights, this one stood out. Red Chillies Entertainment hosted a grand premiere of The Bads of Bollywood at the opulent Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai, and the event was anything but ordinary. The venue shimmered with lights, echoed with camera clicks, and buzzed with a sense of cinematic history being made.

What was meant to be a premiere for a new web series quickly evolved into a full-blown media spectacle. The red carpet felt like a who’s who of Bollywood. From Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt to Kajol and Ajay Devgn, the A-list turnout was jaw-dropping. Every entrance was a moment, with celebrities donning dramatic couture, glamorous gowns, and statement looks that sparked a fashion frenzy.

The biggest highlight, however, was the presence of Shah Rukh Khan and his family, attending in support of Aryan Khan, who made his much-anticipated directorial debut. Aryan, known for staying out of the spotlight, finally stepped in—but on his own terms—as the creative force behind The Bads of Bollywood, a satirical action comedy web series that premiered on Netflix the same night.

The evening wasn’t without its emotional undertones. One particularly touching moment saw Bobby Deol comforting Aryan Khan, in what appeared to be an attempt to lift his spirits amidst the overwhelming attention. These intimate gestures gave the night a human touch, a reminder that behind the glitz were real emotions, dreams, and first steps being taken.

As the show begins its streaming journey on Netflix, all eyes are on Aryan Khan, who has taken his first step not as an actor, but as a director with a vision. The premiere may be over, but the buzz around The Bads of Bollywood has only just begun.

Paramount+ to Premiere Posthumous Ozzy Osbourne Documentary OZZY: NO ESCAPE FROM NOW on October 7

Paramount+ has officially announced the premiere of OZZY: NO ESCAPE FROM NOW, a feature-length documentary that captures the final six years of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne’s life. The film, developed in close collaboration with the Osbourne family, will stream globally starting October 7. Originally intended as a living tribute, the documentary has taken on deeper meaning following Ozzy’s death on July 22, 2025.

The documentary offers an intimate look into the personal and physical challenges Ozzy faced in his later years, including the life-altering fall he suffered in 2019 that triggered a painful series of spinal surgeries and ultimately led to the cancellation of his farewell tour. It also explores the impact of his Parkinson’s diagnosis—on both his body and his spirit—through raw, heartfelt conversations with his wife Sharon and children Aimee, Kelly, and Jack. “He was in hospital for weeks… that was his biggest heartbreak,” Aimee shares in the film.

Despite these struggles, OZZY: NO ESCAPE FROM NOW is not just a story of pain and decline. It celebrates Ozzy’s relentless creative drive, particularly his unexpected return to music through a 2019 collaboration with Post Malone on “Take What You Want.” That experience reinvigorated Ozzy’s passion and led to two critically acclaimed albums, Ordinary Man and the Grammy-winning Patient Number 9, both of which are featured prominently in the film.

The documentary also includes tributes and reflections from close friends and musical collaborators including Tony Iommi, Slash, and James Hetfield—each offering deeply personal insights into the man behind the music. Their voices, combined with never-before-seen footage and unfiltered family commentary, help paint a complete portrait of Ozzy’s final chapter.

While OZZY: NO ESCAPE FROM NOW was never envisioned as a posthumous release, it now stands as a profound and powerful homage to a once-in-a-generation artist who redefined rock and metal while battling immense personal odds. With his signature candor, wit, and unmatched resilience, Ozzy Osbourne’s final years are documented with respect, honesty, and admiration.

The documentary is more than a farewell—it’s a celebration of a legacy that will echo for generations to come.
