โ€œOh, Goa!โ€: Pope Leo XIVโ€™s Warm Reaction During Vatican Blessing Delights Devotees

Written by Tanisha Cardozo || Team Allycaral

A heart-warming and memorable moment unfolded at the Vatican when Pope Leo XIV drew smiles and applause after warmly reacting to the mention of Goa while blessing a child. As the childโ€™s connection to the coastal state was shared during the ceremony, the pontiff spontaneously exclaimed, โ€œOh, Goa!โ€, turning a quiet blessing into a touching exchange that resonated with those present.

The Popeโ€™s affectionate response instantly lit up the atmosphere, with devotees describing the moment as both joyful and deeply personal. For many Goans watching or learning about the exchange later, it became a moment of pride, as their homeland was briefly but warmly acknowledged at the heart of the Vatican.

What stood out was the simplicity of the gesture. Without any script or formality, the Popeโ€™s spontaneous reaction reflected his personable nature and ability to connect with people through small but meaningful moments. Attendees noted that the warmth of the exchange made the occasion feel special, transforming a routine blessing into a shared experience of happiness.

The moment was widely appreciated by devotees and quickly spread among Goan communities, who described it as a reminder of how even the smallest references can carry emotional weight when they come from places of global significance. For those present, and for Goans across the world, it was a brief yet powerful instance of recognition, joy and connection.

Third Sunday of Advent: A Celebration of Joyful Waiting

Written by Nikita Volvoikar

On this Third Sunday of Advent, the Church pauses its penitential tone to rejoice in hope and joyful expectation. Known as Gaudete Sunday, the day marks a turning point in the Advent journey as Christmas draws closer.

The liturgical colour shifts from violet to rose, symbolising joy, encouragement, and renewed hope. This โ€œbrighteningโ€ of violet reminds the faithful that the long-awaited celebration of Christโ€™s birth is near, even as the season of waiting continues.

Advent is not merely about waitingโ€”it is about waiting with confidence. Reflecting this spirit, Pope Leo, in his homily today, described Gaudete Sunday as โ€œthe Sunday of joy,โ€ reminding the faithful of the bright side of anticipation. He noted that this day calls believers to trust that โ€œsomething beautiful, something joyful will happen.โ€

In a world often burdened by anxiety, uncertainty, and unrest, Gaudete Sunday offers a powerful reminder that Christian hope is rooted in joy. It invites families and communities to pause, reflect, and rediscover the promise of Godโ€™s love revealed in the coming of Jesus Christ.

As the Advent wreath now shines brighter, the rose candle serves as a gentle reminder that light is overcoming darkness. The faithful are encouraged to embrace this joyโ€”not as fleeting happiness, but as a deep assurance that God is at work, even in times of waiting.

With hearts lifted in hope, the Third Sunday of Advent calls us to rejoice, trust, and prepare ourselves spiritually for the celebration of Christmas.

Catholic Priest & School Principal Wins Gold at International Powerlifting Tournament in Bhutan

A remarkable blend of faith, discipline, and athletic excellence was witnessed in Bhutan as Fr. Denis Dominic Joseph, a Catholic priest and Principal of St. Joseph Boys High School, Khadki, secured gold medals in powerlifting at the SBKF 12th International Games, held from 14โ€“17 November 2025 at the Bhutan Olympic Stadium in Thimphu.

Fr. Denis began his powerlifting journey just two and a half years ago, driven by a desire to promote strength, fitness, and faith among the youth. His progress has been exceptional. In December 2024, he won a major title at the WRPF National Powerlifting Championship in Pune, marking a significant milestone in his athletic rise.

One of the most emotional and inspiring moments of the Bhutan championship came when Fr. Denis ascended the podium wearing his cassock, a medal resting upon itโ€”fulfilling a long-held personal dream. He said this Jubilee Year stirred within him a deep calling to โ€œrevive medals on his cassock,โ€ not for personal fame, but as a testament that priesthood and physical strength can coexist, and that faith strengthens discipline.

In an interview with Catholic Connect, he shared:
โ€œI offer this achievement to the Jubilee Year, and especially to our Priests and Religious Parents, whose prayers and sacrifices inspire me daily. On the international stage, I felt the grace of God and the support of our entire Church with me.โ€

Mother Mary โ€” His Coach and Strength

Without a personal coach present in Bhutan, Fr. Denis entrusted himself entirely to Mother Mary, whom he called his โ€œCoach, strength, protector, and everything.โ€ He also expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and well-wishers who supported him throughout his journey.

During the competition, he wore a rosary around his neckโ€”a sign of faith and spiritual strength he carried with him through every lift.

Currently serving as Assistant Parish Priest at Saint Ignatius Church, Khadki, Fr. Denis combines his pastoral duties with his role as Principal of St. Joseph Boys High School. His commitment to evangelising the youth through fitness and discipline continues to inspire many.

His victory in Bhutan stands as a powerful reminder that faith and physical excellence are not separate paths, but can beautifully complement each other.
