Govt Bans Ullu, ALTT, Desiflix for Streaming Soft Porn Content in Violation of IT Rules

New Delhi | July 25, 2025 โ€” In a sweeping digital crackdown, the Government of India has officially banned several OTT platforms, including Ullu, ALTT (formerly ALT Balaji), Desiflix, and others, for allegedly streaming soft pornographic content in violation of IT Rules 2021.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), acting on multiple public complaints and regulatory findings, took action citing concerns over content that undermines public morality, decency, and social order.

Officials noted that these platforms exploited regulatory loopholes and misused the freedom offered to OTT content creators to distribute explicit adult material under the label of “bold” or “uncensored” content.

โ€œThe decision has been made to protect youth and vulnerable audiences from exposure to unethical content. Content streaming in India must respect cultural and legal boundaries,โ€ an official source stated.

The ban is expected to trigger deeper scrutiny of smaller OTT platforms, many of which operate without strong content oversight or parental controls.

๐Ÿ“Œ What This Means:

  • Platforms must now undergo stricter compliance under IT Rules.
  • A content certification framework for OTTs may be introduced.
  • Discussions around creative freedom vs. content ethics will intensify.

Written by Tanisha Cardozo

The 18th edition of Hyundai India Couture Week 2025 opened with a spellbinding show in New Delhi, led by internationally acclaimed designer Rahul Mishra. The evening belonged to Tamannaah Bhatia, who graced the runway in two unforgettable looks that embodied the designerโ€™s soulful new collection, Becoming Love.

๐ŸŒธ A Collection Rooted in Mysticism

Mishraโ€™s collection, originally showcased in Paris, draws deeply from Sufi mysticism. Titled Becoming Love, it traces the spiritual evolution of love โ€” from longing and attachment to divine connection. The garments featured intricate hand embroidery, motifs of blooming lotuses, garden landscapes, and celestial artwork depicting Lord Krishnaโ€™s Raas Leela.

โ€œBecoming Love is not just about fashion. Itโ€™s a meditation on emotional and spiritual awakening,โ€ said Mishra.

๐Ÿ‘‘ Tamannaah: Muse and Magic

Opening the show, Tamannaah Bhatia first walked in a soft-toned, hand-embroidered gown โ€” glimmering with sequins and delicately woven florals. Her elegance reflected the introspective beauty of loveโ€™s first stirrings.

Her second walk transformed the mood โ€” she appeared in a brilliant lehenga, crafted with dazzling embellishments and layered embroidery. Though reminiscent of Indian bridalwear, the design felt refreshingly modern and bold.

โ€œTamannaah was not just a showstopper, she was the soul of the story,โ€ noted fashion observers. โ€œShe brought Mishraโ€™s vision alive.โ€

๐ŸŒŸ A Promising Start to Couture Week

The show was a grand opening to Couture Weekโ€™s 2025 chapter, signaling that this season will be a blend of deep artistry and bold expression. Breaking Barriers: K-Popโ€™s Newest Group 1VERSE Features North Korean Defectors

Written by Tanisha Cardozo

The global K-pop scene has witnessed countless debuts, but none quite like this. On July 18, 2025, the boy band 1VERSE stepped into the spotlightโ€”and into history.

What sets them apart? Two of their five members, Hyuk and Seok, are North Korean defectors, marking a rare and powerful moment of cross-border cultural fusion in an industry typically defined by polished pop and intense idol training.

Hyuk, who defected from North Hamgyong Province at age 12, stumbled into the music world while working in a factory during a rough patch in his life. After a chance meeting with a music label CEO, Hyuk began rap lessons on weekends in Seoul. Despite skepticism and financial hardship, he persevered, training for a year before joining the agency.

โ€œI had nothing to lose,โ€ Hyuk recalls. โ€œEven if it had been a scam, I didnโ€™t have anything worth robbing.โ€

Seok, also from North Korea, defected in 2019 after a childhood spent playing soccer. While pursuing physical education in South Korea, a casual weekend match led to his discovery and entry into idol training.

Both defectors had limited exposure to music growing up. โ€œMusic wasnโ€™t something I could afford,โ€ Hyuk shared. For Seok, K-pop existed in secretโ€”he first heard f(x)โ€™s โ€œLA chA TAโ€ and some Super Junior songs as a child, despite strict bans on South Korean pop culture in the North.

Theyโ€™re joined by Nathan from Arkansas, Kenny from Los Angeles, and Aito from Japan. Together, they form a truly international ensemble. Nathan discovered K-pop through his cousins and fell in love after watching EXOโ€™s โ€œGrowl.โ€ Kenny emphasizes the groupโ€™s mission of global inclusion, saying, โ€œWeโ€™re not just about music. Weโ€™re learning about each otherโ€™s cultures and stories.โ€

For Seok, this is a dream of connection: โ€œI rarely saw foreigners growing up. I always wanted to meet people from other countries.โ€

1VERSE has begun building a devoted fanbase through emotional content like Seokโ€™s heartfelt video diaries on TikTok and YouTube. โ€œI cried reading fansโ€™ messages,โ€ he said. โ€œThey gave me strength.โ€

Still, Hyuk is clear: this isnโ€™t just a North Korean story. โ€œItโ€™s about usโ€”all five of us,โ€ he says. โ€œWeโ€™re on this journey together.โ€

1VERSEโ€™s debut single album, โ€œThe 1st Verseโ€, is now available across all major streaming platforms. This isnโ€™t just K-popโ€”itโ€™s a testament to how music, resilience, and diversity can unite worlds once divided.
