Suyog Shigmotsav Mandal, Adpai-Agapur, has emerged as the “Romtamel Champions 2026” after an extraordinary performance across Shigmotsav competitions held throughout Goa. The mandal created a record by participating in 18 competitions, the highest by any group this year, and in some instances, even competing in two events on the same day while maintaining exceptional performance standards.
The mandal delivered a dominant run, securing first-place victories at Cortalim, Calangute, Curchorem, Mapusa, Sankhali, Porvorim, Cuncolim, Pernem, and Ponda. In addition, they claimed second-place finishes at Panaji, Margao, Bicholim, Vasco, Mandrem, and Sanguem, along with a third-place win at Dharbandora and fourth-place finishes at Shiroda and Valpoi. Overall, the mandal achieved an impressive tally of 9 first, 6 second, 1 third, and 2 fourth prizes.
This victory adds to their legacy, as the mandal has now won the championship title seven times in the past 11 years, including in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024, reinforcing their dominance in Goa’s traditional Romtamel competitions.
Their signature presentation, “Shigmyachi Jat,” has consistently captivated audiences with its creativity and cultural richness. The innovative elements introduced by the mandal have even inspired other groups to adopt similar concepts, reflecting their influence on the evolving landscape of Shigmotsav performances.
Despite facing challenges this year, including concerns over repeated selection of judges across competitions, the mandal overcame all obstacles through determination and unity. The achievement is credited to the leadership and guidance of Vignesh Govind Naik, whose vision played a crucial role in shaping the team’s success.
The mandal has also dedicated this remarkable accomplishment to their late members, Brahmanand (Bhai) Naik and Saish Adpaikar, honouring their contributions and legacy.
This success stands as a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and passion of every artist and member involved, marking yet another proud moment for Goa’s vibrant cultural traditions.
