Konkani Natak Sangeet Academy Marks World Konkani Day, Announces Cultural Workshops

The Konkani Natak Sangeet Academy observed World Konkani Day in Ponda, paying heartfelt tribute to the legendary Konkani writer and activist Shenoi Goembab. The occasion, which marks his death anniversary, was commemorated with floral tributes during an executive committee meeting held at Bambolkarโ€™s Art Gallery.

The meeting was chaired by Academy President Dr. Purnanand Chari and began with the ceremonial garlanding of Shenoi Goembabโ€™s portrait, honouring his immense contributions to the Konkani language and literature. The newly appointed executive committee also officially assumed charge during the session.

During the meeting, the Academy outlined a series of cultural and educational initiatives aimed at promoting and preserving Konkani arts. A major highlight is the upcoming three-day Konkani Playwriting Camp (Natya Lekhan Shibir), which will be organised in collaboration with the Goa Konkani Akademi. The camp is scheduled for April 30, May 1, and May 2, and aims to nurture new talent in Konkani theatre writing.

In addition, the committee resolved to conduct a Drama Reading Workshop (Natya Vachan Karyaval) to encourage deeper engagement with Konkani theatrical literature. Plans were also discussed for a special musical evening titled โ€˜Sangeet Saanzโ€™, celebrating the richness of Konkani music. The Academy has proposed inviting veteran singer Usha Amonkar to guide the initiative, along with participation from Dr. Shakuntala Bharne.

The meeting brought together several prominent members of the art and literary community, including Vice President Vijaykant Namshikar, Secretary Adv. Pandharinath Parab, and committee members Shridhar Kamat Bambolkar, John Aguiar, Adv. Manoj Bandodkar, Ramesh Komarpant and others.

The event not only celebrated the enduring legacy of Shenoi Goembab but also reflected the Academyโ€™s commitment to nurturing and promoting Konkani culture through meaningful initiatives for artists and enthusiasts across Goa.
