The fifth and final league round of the Goa Premier Division League 2026, organised by the Goa Cricket Association, began on an exciting note with dominant performances from Dempo Cricket Club, Chowgule Sports Club, and Salgaocar Cricket Club on Day One.
At the NAPEX ground in Sankhali, Salgaocar Cricket Club showcased their batting strength by declaring their first innings at an imposing 351 for 8. Captain Yash Kasvankar led from the front with a brilliant 121 off 155 balls, striking 14 fours and 2 sixes. He was well supported by Shaantanu Nevagi, who scored 49, and Azaan Thota, who added 44 runs. For Geno Sports Club, Nihal Surlakar picked up two wickets. In response, Geno reached 11 without loss at stumps, beginning their chase cautiously.
At the Bandodkar ground, Panjim Gymkhana struggled with the bat and were bowled out for 143. Soham Panvalkar top-scored with a fighting 51. Dempo Cricket Club responded strongly, reaching 137 for 3 by the end of the day. Captain Snehal Kauthankar remained unbeaten on 60, while Aditya Kota supported him with an unbeaten 42, leaving Dempo just six runs behind and in a commanding position.
Meanwhile, at the GCA Academy ground in Porvorim, Chowgule Sports Club delivered a dominant all-round performance. Shubham Tari starred with the ball, claiming an impressive 6 wickets for 38 runs to bowl out Margao Cricket Club for 101. Chowgule then posted 246 in their first innings, with Gauresh Kambli scoring 50, Shubham Desai contributing 49, and Darshan Misal adding 46. Margao, trailing by 145 runs, ended the day at 5 without loss in their second innings, still facing an uphill task.
With strong individual performances and decisive team efforts, Day One firmly placed Dempo, Chowgule, and Salgaocar in control as the final league round promises more competitive action in the days ahead.
