Actor Vikrant Massey has opened up about the deeply personal and emotional reason behind his decision to take a break from acting, revealing that a touching moment with his son Vardaan played a pivotal role.
Speaking alongside his wife Sheetal Thakur on Parineeti Chopraโs show Mom Talks, Vikrant shared how the phase surrounding his sonโs birth left him physically and mentally exhausted. Balancing professional commitments while stepping into fatherhood created an emotional strain that eventually led him to reassess his priorities.
He reflected on the demands of his profession, explaining how actors often give so much of themselves emotionally, physically, and mentally. As a first-time father, his thoughts were constantly with his family, and he found himself eager to complete work commitments quickly so he could return home to be with his wife and son. He admitted to feeling a sense of loneliness and an emotional void during that period.
Sheetal Thakur echoed his feelings, noting that Vikrant experienced what she described as โdad guilt.โ The actor then recalled a particularly moving moment when his son attempted to say โpapaโ for the first time during a visit to his grandmother. Though the baby couldnโt form the word and simply blew air, the moment deeply impacted Vikrant. It made him realise that he was missing precious milestones, prompting him to rethink his priorities.
That experience became a turning point, and within two months, Vikrant announced his decision to step away from work temporarily. He described fatherhood as the โbiggest earningโ of his life, emphasising that despite professional success, nothing compares to being present for oneโs child.
Vikrant also spoke candidly about the emotional challenges faced by new fathers, highlighting how societal expectations often push men to prioritise being providers over being present. He shared that itโs natural for fathers to feel vulnerable and to long to be at home with their child, encouraging others to embrace these emotions without hesitation.
The actor had earlier surprised fans in 2024 when he announced his break following the success of 12th Fail, for which he received widespread acclaim and a Filmfare Award. His announcement came shortly after the release of The Sabarmati Report, where he expressed gratitude for his journey while indicating a need to โrecalibrateโ and return to his personal life.
Having welcomed their son Vardaan in 2024, Vikrant Massey and Sheetal Thakur have since embraced parenthood, with the actor choosing to focus on family over professional commitments for the time being. His candid reflections have resonated widely, offering a refreshing perspective on fatherhood, vulnerability, and the importance of emotional presence.
