Goan Filmmaker Saisma Naik’s AI Film Toto – A Rescued Love Selected for International Festival

In a significant achievement for Goa’s creative community, Toto – A Rescued Love, an AI-generated short film by Saisma Naik, has been selected for the AI Zone International AI Film Festival, scheduled to be held online on April 10, 2026.

The festival is a global platform dedicated exclusively to films created using artificial intelligence, showcasing the evolving landscape of AI-driven cinema. Saisma Naik, a 21-year-old filmmaker from Ponda and a Mass Communication graduate from Don Bosco College, independently conceptualized and produced the film using a range of AI tools.

The project marks a notable milestone, as it is recognized as the first AI-generated film created by a woman filmmaker in Goa, reflecting the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence in creative storytelling.

Toto – A Rescued Love tells the touching story of a stray dog named Toto, who was once cared for but later abandoned, leaving him to navigate life on the streets. The narrative poignantly captures his longing for companionship, often depicted through his quiet observations of puppies in a pet shop. His journey takes a hopeful turn when a woman rescues him and brings him to a shelter, where he eventually finds a home with a young boy named Max.

Through its emotional storytelling, the film explores themes of abandonment, compassion, and the deep bond between humans and animals.

The selection of the film highlights the growing role of AI-assisted filmmaking and underscores how emerging creators are leveraging new technologies to push the boundaries of storytelling. The festival itself features a diverse lineup, including fully AI-generated works as well as hybrid projects that blend traditional filmmaking with artificial intelligence.

Saisma Naik’s achievement not only brings recognition to her as an emerging filmmaker but also places Goa on the map in the rapidly evolving world of AI cinema, inspiring a new generation of storytellers to experiment with technology-driven creative expression.
