Goa Launches ‘Divyang Bandhan Yojana’ to Support Marriages of Persons with Disabilities

In a significant step towards promoting inclusivity and social support, the Government of Goa has launched the Divyang Bandhan Yojana, a welfare scheme aimed at supporting marriages involving persons with disabilities.

Announced on Thursday, the scheme provides a one-time financial assistance of ₹1 lakh to eligible married couples where either one or both partners have a disability of at least 40 percent. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities and encouraging social inclusion through targeted support measures.

To qualify for the scheme, couples must meet specific criteria, including a combined annual income not exceeding ₹8 lakh. Additionally, applicants must be residents of Goa for a minimum of 15 years, ensuring that the benefits are directed towards long-term residents of the state.

Another key requirement is that applications must be submitted within three years of marriage, making timely registration essential for eligible couples seeking to avail the benefits.

The Divyang Bandhan Yojana is expected to ease financial burdens associated with marriage and provide a sense of security and encouragement to couples navigating life with disabilities. It also highlights the state’s focus on inclusive growth and social welfare, aligning with broader efforts to ensure equal opportunities and dignity for all sections of society.

With this initiative, Goa continues to strengthen its social welfare framework, taking meaningful steps towards building a more inclusive and supportive community for persons with disabilities.
