In a significant recognition of excellence and contribution to science and innovation, distinguished scientist Raghunath Anant Mashelkar will be conferred with the prestigious ‘Gomant Gaurav Sanman’ (Lifetime Achievement Award) at the upcoming Goa 2037: Knowledge, Industry & Sustainability Conclave. The event is being organised by the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with WPU Goa and is scheduled to take place on April 16, 2026, at Kala Academy.
Dr. Mashelkar, a Padma Vibhushan awardee and former Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, is being honoured for his extraordinary journey from the village of Mashel in Goa to becoming a globally respected thought leader in innovation and science. His philosophy of ‘Gandhian Engineering: More from Less for More’ has redefined how innovation can be used as a powerful tool for inclusive and sustainable development.
Speaking on the occasion, GCCI President Pratima Dhond highlighted that the award celebrates a lifetime of excellence and service, recognising Dr. Mashelkar as one of Goa’s most distinguished sons. She emphasised that his journey serves as a powerful inspiration, demonstrating how humble beginnings can lead to global impact.
Echoing similar sentiments, Rahul Karad of WPU Goa noted that Dr. Mashelkar embodies the spirit of Goa through his simplicity, resilience, and deep respect for knowledge. The honour, he said, is a tribute to a visionary who has not only shaped India’s innovation ecosystem but has also remained deeply connected to his Goan roots.
The award ceremony forms a key highlight of the Goa 2037 Conclave, a forward-looking platform designed to align Goa’s development with the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. The conclave aims to create a roadmap for the state’s future by fostering dialogue between industry leaders, policymakers, and academia.
Key discussions during the event will focus on balancing industrial growth with ecological sustainability and positioning Goa as a global knowledge hub through stronger collaboration between academia and industry. Organisers have emphasised that the conclave is a step towards building an integrated, future-ready state that is economically vibrant, environmentally responsible, and academically progressive.
