The fourth round of the Goa Premier Division League witnessed dominant performances and gripping contests on Day 2, with Chowgule Sports Club registering a commanding innings victory, while Dempo Cricket Club continued to build a strong advantage and Salgaocar Cricket Club kept their hopes alive in a closely fought match.
At Chicalim, Chowgule Sports Club delivered a clinical performance against Panjim Gymkhana. After bundling out Panjim Gymkhana for 101 in the first innings, powered by a sensational spell from Shubham Desai who claimed seven wickets, Chowgule responded with a solid total of 213 runs. Contributions from Madhur (42), Felix Alemao (37), and Shubham Tari (36) ensured a substantial lead despite Mohit Redkar’s six-wicket effort for Panjim.
The second innings proved even more disastrous for Panjim Gymkhana as they collapsed for just 56 runs. Darshan Misal picked up six wickets while Desai added four more to his tally, completing an outstanding match haul of 11 wickets. Chowgule sealed an innings-and-56-run victory, with Desai being named Player of the Match for his match-winning performance.
Meanwhile, at Porvorim, the contest between Margao Cricket Club and Salgaocar Cricket Club entered an exciting phase. MCC had earlier posted a strong total of 293 runs, led by Deepraj Gaonkar’s 81 and supported by Umang Gosavi (71) and Aryan Narvekar (39). Salgaocar responded with 216 runs, with Yogesh Kauthankar scoring 56 and Shaantanu Nevagi adding 36. Rudresh Sharma’s five-wicket haul gave MCC a 77-run lead.
However, the momentum shifted as Salgaocar staged a remarkable comeback by bowling out MCC for just 119 in their second innings. Devankumar Chittem top-scored with 65, but Yash Kasvankar’s exceptional seven-wicket spell turned the game on its head. At stumps, Salgaocar were 59 for 3, requiring another 138 runs to secure victory with one day remaining.
At the NAPEX ground in Sankhali, Dempo Cricket Club maintained control against Geno Sports Club. After dismissing Geno for 121 in the first innings, Dempo piled up an imposing total of 351, highlighted by Rahul Mehta’s 89, Sarthak Bhike’s 54, and Snehal Kauthankar’s 46.
In their second innings, Geno Sports Club struggled at 123 for 5, still trailing by 107 runs. Manthan Khutkar remained unbeaten on 60, showing resilience, but the advantage clearly remained with Dempo as they moved closer to victory.
With one day left in the round, all eyes will be on the MCC-Salgaocar clash, which promises a thrilling finish, while Dempo looks set to seal a comprehensive win and Chowgule celebrates a dominant outing.
