The sixth edition of the Ramakant Verlekar Champions Trophy 2026 concluded with a commanding performance by PGML Kings, who outclassed MCL Superstars to retain their title for the fourth consecutive year at the Rajendra Prasad Stadium in Margao.
What was expected to be a closely fought T20 encounter turned into a one-sided contest, as MCL Superstars faltered early and failed to recover from a series of setbacks. Batting first, MCL lost two wickets within the first 14 balls, and their situation worsened when PGML skipper Mukhtar Kadri struck twice in consecutive deliveries, leaving them struggling at 23 for 3.
The collapse continued as wickets fell at regular intervals, with poor running between the wickets further compounding their troubles. Despite a fighting knock of 27 from skipper Amod Borkar, MCL could only manage to post a modest total of 112 after crossing the 100-run mark in the 18th over.
In reply, PGML Kings faced an early hiccup but quickly regained control. Bowlers Siddharth Ghanekar and Vikrant Prabhu applied initial pressure, and a sharp catch by Aditya Angle briefly lifted MCLโs hopes. However, a dropped catch of Avishkar More proved to be a turning point in the match.
Avishkar More capitalised on the reprieve and went on to play a match-winning knock of 51 off just 26 balls. Alongside Abhijit Bhandare, he steadied the innings before accelerating the scoring rate. A decisive over from Amod Borkar, which yielded 16 runs, effectively sealed the game in PGMLโs favour.
PGML Kings comfortably chased down the target in just 15 overs, sparking celebrations under the floodlights as fireworks lit up the Margao sky.
At the post-match presentation, Sayyed Abdul of the Goa Cricket Association handed over the trophy to the winning team. Avishkar More was named Man of the Match and Best Batsman, while Mukhtar Kadri received the Best Bowler award. Heramb Parab was recognised as Impact Player, and Aditya Angle was awarded Best Fielder.
The tournament, organised by the Sunita Verlekar Foundation, also featured a meaningful initiative with a cricket scholarship awarded to young talent Uzma Shaikh, highlighting its commitment to nurturing future cricketers.
The event once again brought together experienced players and emerging talent, celebrating not just competition but the spirit of cricket in Goa.
