St. Thomas HSS Aldona Hosts Thrilling U-14 Invitational Basketball Tournament


St. Thomas Higher Secondary School Aldona, in collaboration with Aldona Basketball Club, successfully organized a two-day Under-14 Invitational Basketball Tournament on March 24 and 25 at its basketball court, bringing together young talent from across Goa in a celebration of sport, teamwork, and competitive spirit.

The tournament saw enthusiastic participation from several schools, with players showcasing impressive skill, coordination, and determination throughout the matches. The event provided a valuable platform for budding athletes to compete, learn, and gain exposure in a structured sporting environment.

In the girls’ category, St. Mary’s High School Mapusa emerged as champions after delivering a dominant performance across the tournament. St. Thomas Girls High School Aldona secured the runners-up position, while St. Xavier’s High School Moira finished third.

The boys’ category witnessed equally intense competition, with St. Britto’s High School Mapusa clinching the title after defeating St. Francis Xavier’s High School Siolim in a closely fought final. St. Thomas Boys High School Aldona secured third place, adding to the host institution’s overall strong showing.

Individual brilliance was also acknowledged during the tournament. In the girls’ section, Roshni of St. Thomas Girls High School, Aldona was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Tanishka of St. Xavier’s High School, Moira was named Emerging Player. In the boys’ section, Michael of St. Britto’s High School, Mapusa earned the MVP award, while Sakeeb of St. Anthony’s Duler was recognised as the Emerging Player.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including Matthew Fernandes, Amarnath Panjikar, Akhil Palni, Fr. Jerard Sahayaraj, and Principal Angelica Mendes, who commended the participants for their dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship.

The tournament concluded on a high note, reinforcing the importance of sports in holistic student development and highlighting the role of such initiatives in nurturing future sporting talent in Goa.
