Caritas Goa Launches State’s First Sensory Garden for Children with Disabilities in Saligao

Caritas Goa has launched Goa’s first sensory garden dedicated to children with disabilities at its Saligao centre, marking a significant step towards inclusive and accessible community spaces. The initiative has been supported as part of a CSR effort by Frontline Managed Services.

The sensory garden was inaugurated by His Eminence Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, alongside Joshua Silveira, Director – India Operations at Frontline Managed Services, Fr. Maverick Fernandes, Director of Caritas Goa, and other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Joshua Silveira highlighted the importance of building inclusive spaces, stating that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to learn, explore, and thrive in a supportive environment.

Fr. Maverick Fernandes emphasised that the sensory garden represents Caritas Goa’s dedication to dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunity. He noted that such initiatives not only provide therapeutic spaces for children but also help raise awareness about the importance of inclusive development within society.

The sensory garden has been designed as a multi-sensory environment where children can engage through touch, sound, smell, and movement. It includes features such as a sound wall for experiencing vibrations, interactive activity panels for hands-on learning, textured surfaces for tactile stimulation, and curated plant zones with edible and fragrant species to enhance sensory exploration.

Special attention has been given to inclusivity for children with deafblindness, ensuring that the space offers a safe, stimulating, and accessible environment. The initiative also complements the work carried out by Caritas Deafblind Centres in Saligao and Margao, which serve hundreds of individuals through therapy, rehabilitation, and communication training programmes.

Beyond infrastructure, the project aims to challenge societal perceptions around disability and promote the right of every child to access meaningful public spaces. It also strengthens community engagement by encouraging awareness and participation in inclusive practices.

Frontline Managed Services reiterated its commitment to supporting impactful CSR initiatives across Goa and India, reinforcing its focus on social responsibility alongside business growth.

With this pioneering effort, Caritas Goa continues to set a benchmark for inclusive development, creating spaces that empower children with disabilities to learn, grow, and lead dignified lives.
