Geno Sports Club, Panjim Gymkhana & Salgaocar Cricket Club Secure First-Innings Lead Points in Goa Premier Division League


The opening round of the Goa Premier Division League, organised by the Goa Cricket Association, concluded with all three matches ending in draws, but not without intense competition and crucial outcomes. Geno Sports Club, Panjim Gymkhana, and Salgaocar Cricket Club secured important points based on their first-innings leads.

At the NAPEX ground, the clash between Panjim Gymkhana and Margao Cricket Club delivered a thrilling finish. Panjim Gymkhana declared their second innings at 214 for 6 after resuming at 82 for 2, setting up an exciting chase. Dishank Misquin remained unbeaten on 70, while Ishan Gadekar contributed 51. In response, Margao Cricket Club fought hard, reaching 225 for 9, falling just 15 runs short of victory with one wicket remaining when time ran out. Deepraj Gaonkarโ€™s 88 and Aryan Narvekarโ€™s 61 kept Margao in contention, while Shadab Khan picked up three wickets.

At the Bandodkar Ground in Campal, the encounter between Geno Sports Club and Chowgule Sports Club also ended in a draw after a competitive battle. Geno, resuming their second innings at 124 for 3, were bowled out for 225, with Vikas Singh scoring 47. Chowgule skipper Darshan Misal impressed with a remarkable 7-wicket haul. In reply, Chowgule reached 199 for 7, with Madhur Yadav scoring 69 and Misal adding 44. For Geno, Vikas Singh and Manish Kakode took three wickets each to ensure the match remained evenly poised.

Meanwhile, at the GCA ground in Cotarli-Sanguem, Salgaocar Cricket Club dominated proceedings against Dempo Cricket Club. After posting a massive first-innings total of 513, Salgaocar forced Dempo to follow on. Yash Kasvankar starred with the ball, claiming six wickets to bundle out Dempo for 196. In the second innings, Dempo showed resilience, reaching 152 for 3, with Aaditya Kota unbeaten on 67 and Abhinav Tejrana adding 45, ensuring the match ended in a draw.

At the end of the first round, Salgaocar Cricket Club, Panjim Gymkhana, and Geno Sports Club lead the points table with three points each, while Chowgule Sports Club, Margao Cricket Club, and Dempo Cricket Club have one point apiece. The closely fought matches underline the competitive nature of the league and set the stage for an exciting season ahead.
