Ex-NCC Cadets Pay Tribute to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar & Shivaram Rajguru on Shaheed Diwas in Mapusa


A solemn commemorative programme was organised in Mapusa on March 23 by the Ex-NCC Cadets Association Goa in collaboration with Lok Mitra Mandal and the Mapusa Municipal Council to mark Shaheed Diwas, paying homage to the legendary martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru.

The event witnessed the presence of key dignitaries including MMC Chairperson Smt. Priya Mishal, Vice Chairman Shri Chandrashekar (Bhiv) Shet, councillors, and prominent citizens. Addressing the gathering, Chairperson Priya Mishal paid heartfelt tributes to the martyrs and acknowledged their unparalleled sacrifice in India’s freedom struggle. She also announced that the Mapusa Municipal Council will officially observe Shaheed Diwas every year, ensuring that the legacy of these national heroes continues to inspire future generations.

Adding historical depth to the event, a member of the Ex-NCC Cadets Association recounted the early life and revolutionary spirit of Bhagat Singh. The speaker highlighted how, at the young age of 12, Bhagat Singh was deeply moved by the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and resolved to fight against British rule. The address further touched upon the formation and activities of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association, including their response to the death of Lala Lajpat Rai and the iconic assembly bombing in Lahore.

The programme also featured patriotic performances by students of Janata High School, Mapusa, which added a vibrant and emotional dimension to the tribute. The event was seamlessly compered by Shri Surendra Shetye, ensuring smooth proceedings throughout.

Several dignitaries were present at the event, including Shri Sunil Shet, President of the Ex-NCC Cadets Association, Shri Pradip Sawant, Immediate Past President, Shri Subhash Kauthankar, President of the Indian Red Cross Association Mapusa, Adv. Eeshan Usspkar, among others.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge to uphold the ideals of courage, sacrifice, and national service embodied by the martyrs, reinforcing the importance of remembering and honouring India’s freedom fighters.
