The third edition of the Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Tennis Open 2026 has drawn an impressive 247 entries, reinforcing its growing popularity as a key state-level ranking tournament for tennis players across Goa.
The tournament, held in memory of Dayanand Bandodkar, is scheduled to take place from March 21 to March 29 at the Panjim Gymkhana courts in the state capital. Supported by the Goa State Tennis Association and the DB Bandodkar & Sons Group, the event continues to build on the success of its previous editions while providing a competitive platform for players across age groups.
A notable highlight this year is the strong participation in the junior categories, with 69 young players registering for the tournament. The boys under-12 category has attracted 10 participants, while eight players will compete in the girls under-12 division. In the under-14 category, 14 boys and nine girls are set to participate, while the under-18 category features 17 boys and 11 girls, reflecting increasing interest in the sport among youth in the state.
Speaking on the growing response, Sameer Kakodkar, president of the Goa State Tennis Association, noted that such tournaments play a crucial role in encouraging wider participation and offering players a professional competitive environment.
The masters categories have also drawn significant entries, with 31 players in the menโs 45+ singles, seven teams in the 45+ doubles, 10 participants in the menโs 60+ singles, and seven teams in the 60+ doubles.
The open categories form the largest segment of the competition, with 56 entries in the menโs singles and 21 in the ladiesโ singles. The doubles events include 21 teams in menโs open doubles, eight in ladiesโ doubles, and 15 teams in mixed doubles. Additionally, the inclusion of an open wheelchair category with two entries highlights efforts to make the tournament more inclusive.
Tournament Director Sandeep Heble emphasised that the event brings together experienced players and emerging talent, fostering an environment that promotes both skill development and healthy competition.
With strong participation across categories, the Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Tennis Open 2026 continues to strengthen its reputation as a premier tennis event in Goaโs sporting calendar.
