Manipal Hospital Goa has marked a significant advancement in healthcare by successfully completing over 100 robotic-assisted surgeries, reinforcing its position as a leader in precision-driven orthopaedic care in the state. The milestone has been achieved with the use of the advanced VELYSโข Robotic-Assisted Solution, reflecting the hospitalโs strong focus on integrating cutting-edge medical technology.
The procedures were carried out under the expertise of Dr. Rohan R. Desai, Consultant โ Hip & Knee Replacement Surgeon, along with his dedicated team. This achievement highlights a major step forward in enhancing surgical precision, patient safety, and long-term clinical outcomes in Goaโs healthcare ecosystem.
The VELYS robotic system is specifically designed for total and partial knee replacements, enabling highly personalised and minimally invasive procedures. By providing real-time intraoperative insights and data-driven accuracy, the system allows surgeons to perform advanced soft-tissue balancing. This leads to reduced post-operative pain, quicker recovery, and improved mobility for patients.
A key advantage of the procedures being performed is the use of Cruciate-Retaining Total Knee Replacement, which preserves the native posterior cruciate ligament (PCL). This approach supports more natural knee movement, enhances proprioception, and contributes to improved long-term implant performance when compared to traditional methods.
Speaking on the milestone, Dr. Rohan R. Desai said that reaching 100 surgeries is a proud moment for the team. He emphasised that the use of robotic-assisted technology has significantly improved patient outcomes, allowing quicker recovery and better long-term mobility. He also reaffirmed the commitment to bringing world-class medical advancements to Goa.
Adding to this, Surendra Prasad, Hospital Director, stated that the achievement reflects the hospitalโs dedication to offering advanced, technology-driven healthcare. He noted that such milestones demonstrate a continued focus on expanding access to modern orthopaedic treatments while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
The adoption of robotic-assisted surgery has also boosted patient confidence, with more individuals opting for advanced procedures due to reduced complications and enhanced recovery experiences. With this milestone, Manipal Hospital Goa continues to strengthen its orthopaedic programme through expert care, patient-centric protocols, and innovative technologies, further establishing itself as a leading centre for bone and joint care in Goa.
