In a thrilling encounter at the All India West Zone Veterans T20 Cricket Tournament being played in Nanded, the Goa Veterans Cricket Team suffered a narrow defeat against the Maharashtra Veterans Cricket Team in a high-scoring contest.
Batting first, Goa Veterans put up an impressive total of 189 for 4 in 20 overs. The innings was highlighted by a brilliant century from Sahil Dhuri, who scored 103 runs off 61 balls, anchoring the innings with confidence and precision.
He received good support from Damodar Redkar, who contributed 30 runs off 32 balls, while Muktar Kadri added 23 runs off 17 balls. The innings ended on a strong note thanks to a quick cameo from Rajendra Dabholkar, who blasted 24 runs off just 6 deliveries, helping Goa set a challenging target.
For Maharashtra Veterans, Mohan Badure was the most effective bowler with figures of 2 for 26, while Shaikh Zahed also impressed with 2 for 28.
In response, Maharashtra Veterans began their chase strongly, building a solid foundation with 97 runs for the first wicket. Abhijit Kadam led the chase with a fine 71 runs off 45 balls, while Kalid Zaman added 32 runs off 33 balls.
The momentum of the chase was later taken forward by Asif Khan, who played a match-winning knock of 54 runs off just 21 balls, guiding Maharashtra to victory in the final over.
Maharashtra Veterans successfully chased down the target, finishing at 190 for 4 in 20 overs, sealing their place in the final of the tournament.
For Goa Veterans, Prasad Patil, Basapa Madar, Rajendra Dabholkar, and Sahil Dhuri claimed one wicket each during the chase.
Despite the defeat, Sahil Dhuri was declared the Fighter of the Match for his outstanding century.
The final of the tournament will now see Maharashtra Veterans Cricket Team face Vidarbha Veterans Cricket Team.
