Panaji: The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), in collaboration with Victor Hospital and the Goa Society of Nephrology, organised the World Kidney Day Celebration 2026 on March 12 at the Surendrababu Timblo Convention Hall, Panaji.
The programme aimed to create awareness about kidney health, early detection of kidney diseases, preventive healthcare, and the importance of organ donation.
Focus on Preventive Healthcare
The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Sneha Bhagwat, who emphasised the importance of collective efforts in spreading awareness about kidney health and promoting organ donation.
Opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Amol Mahaldar, who highlighted the growing burden of kidney diseases and stressed the need for healthy lifestyle choices, regular screening, and timely medical intervention.
Dr. Ajay Gangoli also addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of strengthening healthcare support systems and encouraging organ donation to support patients suffering from end-stage renal disease.
Keynote Address on Rising Kidney Diseases
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. J. P. Tiwari, who is also the President of the Goa Society of Nephrology.
In his address, Dr. Tiwari spoke about the rising prevalence of kidney-related ailments and highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare, routine health check-ups, and public awareness to reduce the risk of kidney diseases.
Panel Discussion and Patient Experiences
A panel discussion was organised featuring Dr. Amol Mahaldar and Dr. Shital Lengade, who discussed kidney care, treatment options, and recent advancements in nephrology.
The programme also included inspiring patient experiences. Umesh Dhavlikar and Rasool Sayyed shared their personal journeys and highlighted the life-saving importance of organ donation and timely medical intervention.
Cyclothon and Awareness Initiatives
As part of the broader World Kidney Day awareness initiative, the Goa Society of Nephrology, in association with Shree Damodar Dialysis Centre and the MOHAN Foundation, organised a Cyclothon for Goans on March 8, 2026 to promote kidney health awareness and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Prizes from the competition were distributed during the March 12 programme.
