Victor Hospital, in association with NephroPlus, successfully organised a Walkathon and Kidney Health Awareness Program in Margao to mark World Kidney Day.
The initiative aimed to raise public awareness about kidney health while promoting the global theme “Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet.”
The event began at 9:00 AM, with participants assembling at Gate No. 2 of Victor Hospital.
The Walkathon was flagged off by Digambar Kamat, Hon’ble PWD Minister of Goa, MLA of Margao Constituency and former Chief Minister of Goa.
Doctors, hospital staff, patients, volunteers and members of the public enthusiastically participated in the walk to spread awareness about kidney health, early diagnosis, and prevention of kidney-related diseases.
The Walkathon route began from Victor Hospital, proceeded to the Margao Municipality Garden, and concluded back at the hospital premises.
Participants carried awareness placards and messages encouraging healthy lifestyles, proper hydration and regular health check-ups to prevent kidney diseases.
Following the Walkathon, the program continued with a Kidney Health Awareness Talk Session conducted by leading specialists:
- Dr Shital Lengade, Nephrologist
- Dr Victor Coelho, Urologist
- Dr Raghuram Bhat, Nephrologist
The experts highlighted the importance of early detection of kidney disorders, preventive healthcare, and lifestyle changes including balanced nutrition, proper hydration, and regular medical screening.
Addressing the gathering, Digambar Kamat appreciated the initiative taken by Victor Hospital and NephroPlus in raising awareness about kidney health.
He emphasised the importance of community awareness and preventive healthcare in reducing the growing burden of kidney diseases.
The program also witnessed participation from members of several community organisations including:
- Rotary Club of Margao Midtown
- Rotary Club Margao Sunrise
- Lions Club Margao
- JCI Fatorda Town
The program concluded with refreshments and interaction between doctors and participants, encouraging greater community engagement in promoting kidney health awareness.
Victor Hospital reiterated its commitment to organising community health initiatives that educate and empower people to take proactive steps toward better health.
