In a historic moment for the global fashion industry, Indian model Bhavitha Mandava has been named a house ambassador for the luxury French fashion brand Chanel, becoming the first Indian model to achieve the prestigious title.
Mandava shared the milestone on social media, expressing pride in representing the iconic fashion house. She described Chanel as a symbol of the modern working woman and said she was honoured to be part of the brandโs new chapter.
The model first made her Chanel runway debut for Matthieu Blazyโs collection last season and later created history by becoming the first Indian model to open a Chanel show, leading the Mรฉtiers dโArt collection in New York City in December.
In January, the 26-year-old model also closed the Chanel haute couture show in a bridal look, further strengthening her presence on the international fashion stage. Since then, she has appeared on the covers of major fashion publications including British Vogue and i-D magazine.
Interestingly, Mandavaโs entry into modelling happened unexpectedly. While pursuing a masterโs degree in Integrated Design and Media at New York Universityโs Tandon School of Engineering, she was discovered by a modelling scout on the subway. Within weeks, she was cast in a runway show, launching a career that has now led to one of fashionโs most prestigious ambassador roles.
Her appointment marks a significant step forward for Indian representation in global luxury fashion.
