Vedanta Sesa Goa Strengthens Women Empowerment Initiatives on International Women’s Day

Across villages in Goa and several other states, thousands of women are quietly transforming their lives through initiatives supported by Vedanta Sesa Goa. From education and healthcare to sports and digital learning, these programs have created new opportunities and pathways for empowerment.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Vedanta Sesa Goa reaffirmed its commitment to fostering meaningful and lasting change through a range of community-focused initiatives.

Many young women who once believed higher education was beyond their reach are now pursuing their dreams through the Vedanta Utkarsh Scholarship. Meanwhile, healthcare access has improved significantly through Project Aarogya, which brings affordable medical services closer to communities.

Speaking on the occasion, Navin Jaju, CEO of Vedanta Sesa Goa, said empowering women remains central to building resilient communities. He highlighted that the organisation’s initiatives span multiple areas including education, digital skilling, vocational training, healthcare and sports development.

In the financial year 2025–26 alone, more than 6,000 women benefited from education-focused initiatives under Project Vriddhi. At the same time, Project Aarogya delivered affordable healthcare services to over 42,000 community members, most of them women, through mobile health units, medical camps, and awareness programs.

To bridge the digital divide, Vedanta Sesa Goa has established 19 computer labs and seven Vedanta Computer Centres under the guidance of the Vedanta Foundation. These facilities have helped more than 3,000 girls and women gain essential digital skills, opening doors to new career opportunities.

Vocational training initiatives under Project Jeevika have also played a crucial role in enabling women to earn sustainable livelihoods. Through Vedanta Tailoring Training Centres, many women have turned their skills into income-generating opportunities.

One such beneficiary, Shanti Pradeep Hadfadkar from Maem in Bicholim Taluka, shared how the training programme helped her gain confidence and support her family financially.

Sports development is another key pillar of the company’s empowerment strategy. The Sesa Football Academy has built a vibrant ecosystem for women’s football through the Vedanta Women’s League, which has supported the aspirations of more than 1,400 women footballers.

The academy’s Senior Women’s Team lifted the Vedanta Women’s League trophy in 2025 and went on to represent Goa in the Indian Women’s League.

Rising footballer Aroshi Govekar, who recently earned her first call-up to the Indian Senior National Team, described wearing the national jersey as a dream come true and credited the academy for supporting her journey.

Technical education is also being promoted through the Sesa Technical School, which encourages girls to pursue careers in skilled trades and digital fields. Scholarships and specialised courses such as COPA are helping young women build professional careers and achieve financial independence.

The company has also taken steps to improve gender diversity within its workforce. Today, women make up approximately 26 percent of the workforce at Vedanta Sesa Goa, significantly higher than the mining industry’s average of around 8 percent.

Beyond the numbers, the true impact of these initiatives lies in the individual stories of transformation — each scholarship, training program, football match and opportunity representing a step towards equality and sustainable development.

Through these initiatives, Vedanta Sesa Goa continues to build stronger communities while contributing to the broader vision of a more inclusive and empowered society.
