Pune, Maharashtra: Late-night noise from motorcycles fitted with modified silencers has become a growing concern across several residential areas of Pune, with residents claiming the disturbance occurs almost every night.
People living around NIBM Road, Salunkhe Vihar, Kharadi Bypass, Nagar Road and Uruli Devachi say groups of riders, often on modified Royal Enfield motorcycles, frequently ride through residential streets after midnight while revving their engines loudly, disrupting the peace of the neighbourhood.
According to residents, the noise often continues even at 3 a.m. or later, making it difficult for families, elderly citizens and children to sleep. Many locals say the repeated disturbance has become a serious nuisance affecting their daily routine and well-being.
While Pune Police have taken action in the past by seizing and crushing illegal modified silencers, residents say the issue continues to persist in several parts of the city.
Citizens are now questioning why entire communities should lose sleep because of the actions of a few irresponsible riders. Many have urged authorities to increase night patrols and take stricter action against vehicles with illegal silencers that contribute to noise pollution.
Residents have also called for stronger enforcement of traffic rules and awareness among riders to maintain peace in residential neighbourhoods.
