Goa begins stakeholder consultations for state AI policy

The meeting at Paryatan Bhavan was chaired by IT Minister Rohan Khaunte and attended by senior government officials, industry representatives, academic leaders and technology experts.


During the discussion, Khaunte highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in driving innovation, governance and economic growth. He stressed the need for Goa to adopt forward-looking policies that ensure responsible AI adoption while promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.

Stakeholders discussed key sectors where AI can strengthen governance and public service delivery, including tourism, agriculture, healthcare, education and e-governance. The meeting also focused on building an ecosystem that supports AI startups, research, skill development and industry collaboration.

Experts from industry and national initiatives shared insights on emerging AI trends and the importance of developing indigenous AI capabilities.

Participants also discussed creating AI tools in local languages, including the development of a Konkani Large Language Model in collaboration with national initiatives such as Bhashini

Officials said the draft AI Policy has been circulated among stakeholders for feedback, with further consultations planned before finalising the framework under the Goa AI Mission 2027
