Members Carrom Tournament Concludes with Grand Prize Distribution Ceremony

Panaji: The Panaji Gymkhana marked a significant milestone in its sporting activities with the successful organisation of the First Edition of its Members Carrom Tournament. The week-long event, held from February 23 to February 28, witnessed spirited participation, healthy competition, and an atmosphere of camaraderie among members.


A total of 17 participants took part in the inaugural tournament, reflecting encouraging interest in indoor sports within the club. The competition was formally inaugurated by Sameer Kakodkar, who declared the tournament open. In his brief address to the participants, he encouraged members to uphold the values of sportsmanship, discipline, and fair play, while enjoying the competitive spirit of the game.


The tournament featured a series of closely contested matches conducted each evening, with players demonstrating notable precision, strategy, and composure on the board. As rounds progressed, the intensity of competition steadily increased, drawing attention from fellow members who gathered to witness the matches. The event not only highlighted individual skill but also fostered interaction and bonding among participants and spectators alike.

Prakash Arolkar emerged as the champion of the inaugural edition, delivering a consistent and confident performance throughout the tournament. Harish Borkar finished as the runner-up after a spirited contest in the final, earning appreciation for his resilience and skill.
The successful conduct of the tournament underscored the growing enthusiasm for indoor sporting activities at the Gymkhana. Members appreciated the structured format of the competition and the opportunity it provided to showcase talent in a friendly yet competitive environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Panaji Gymkhana President Manoj Caculo expressed satisfaction with the overall response and execution of the event. He stated that the participation of 17 members in the very first edition was a positive sign and commended the quality of matches witnessed during the week, particularly the closely fought final. He further reiterated the clubโ€™s commitment to promoting indoor sports and providing members with platforms to engage, compete, and strengthen community bonds. He added that the tournament is expected to become an annual feature of the Gymkhanaโ€™s sporting calendar, with hopes of even greater participation in the coming years.
