Panaji: Goa suffered a 68-run defeat against Hyderabad in their opening match of the Under-23 Women’s One-Day Trophy Elite competition on Tuesday at the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy Ground.
After winning the toss, Hyderabad elected to bat first and posted a challenging 282 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Goa were bowled out for 214 in 44.5 overs despite being well-placed at one stage.
Mamatha’s Century Turns the Game
Hyderabad were in deep trouble at 137 for 7, with Goa appearing firmly in control. However, wicketkeeper-batter Mamatha produced a stunning unbeaten 106 off just 76 balls, striking 15 boundaries.
She found solid support from K. Srivalli (52), as the pair stitched together a crucial 103-run partnership for the eighth wicket. Their recovery effort, combined with valuable lower-order contributions, propelled Hyderabad to a formidable total.
For Goa, Harshita Yadav, Pooja Kalel, and Tanaya Naik claimed two wickets each, while Nirmiti Khanvilkar and Savali Kolambkar picked up one wicket apiece.
Goa’s Strong Start Ends in Collapse
Chasing 283, Goa showed resilience. Opener Urvashi Govekar top-scored with a patient 54 off 99 balls, hitting six boundaries. Tanaya Naik (30), Presha Naik (27), Swarali Kasar (26), and Harshita Yadav (25) chipped in with valuable runs.
At 205 for 5, Goa looked firmly in the contest. However, a dramatic collapse saw them lose their final five wickets for just nine runs, ending their hopes of a successful chase.
For Hyderabad, Kesari Drithi starred with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 38 runs, while Vanka Pooja supported with 3 for 50.
