Maharashtra Wins Parrikar Trophy at Beach Sprint Rowing Nationals in Goa

Panaji: Maharashtra lifted the Padma Bhushan Manohar Parrikar Rolling Trophy in the women’s category at the 1st Beach Sprint National Rowing Championship Goa 2026, held at Vainguinim Beach, Dona Paula, from February 26 to 28.


The three-day championship was organised by the Rowing Federation of India in collaboration with the Rowing and Sculling Association De Goa, with support from the Sports Authority of Goa. The event marked a significant milestone for the development of coastal rowing in the country.

Rowers from several States participated in the championship, which began with time trials on the opening day. The competition progressed to knockout rounds and quarterfinals on the second day, culminating in semifinals and finals on the concluding day.

The beach sprint format tested participants’ speed, endurance, and tactical skills, combining a sprint on sand, a short high-intensity rowing course in open waters, and a final dash to the finish line.

The championship concluded with a medal ceremony attended by Amitabh Sharma, Executive Council Member of the Indian Olympic Association, who graced the occasion as chief guest. Officials from the Rowing Federation of India and the Sports Authority of Goa were also present.

Officials noted that the successful hosting of the championship highlighted Goa’s growing infrastructure and strong support for water sports and coastal disciplines.
