The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to honour former India cricketer and coach Ravi Shastri by naming a stand after him at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
According to the announcement, the Level 1 stand located below the press box will officially bear Shastri’s name. The decision recognises his significant contribution to Indian cricket, both as a player and later as head coach of the national team.
Ravi Shastri, who represented India in 80 Tests and 150 ODIs, played a key role in several memorable victories during his career. After retiring from international cricket, he transitioned into commentary before taking over as Team India’s head coach, guiding the side to historic overseas Test series wins, including in Australia.
Wankhede Stadium, one of India’s most iconic cricket venues, has been the stage for many historic moments, including the 2011 World Cup final triumph. With this move, the MCA adds Shastri’s name to the list of cricketing greats associated with the stadium, cementing his legacy in Mumbai and Indian cricket history.
