Goa’s music lovers are set to experience a rare cultural revival as the Dona Paula-based Communicare Trust presents two special concerts dedicated to the rediscovered works of Portuguese composer Nicolau Medina Ribas. An early 20th-century composer, Ribas’ manuscripts were nearly lost forever after facing destruction at his estate in Porto. Preserved against the odds, these rescued compositions now return to the stage, offering audiences an intimate glimpse into a forgotten chapter of European musical history.
The concerts will be led by acclaimed Portuguese musicians — violinist Eliseu Silva and pianist Olga Amaro. Known for their sensitive interpretations of classical repertoire for violin and piano, the duo has performed extensively across Europe and has actively promoted Portuguese composers on international stages. Speaking about the project, Olga Amaro described the performances as “a moment of profound emotion and responsibility,” highlighting Goa as a space of shared history and cultural dialogue between Portugal and India.
According to Nalini Elvino de Sousa, Manager at Communicare Trust, the concerts offer more than musical excellence — they create a rare historical encounter connecting Goan audiences with an important yet lesser-known European composer. The initiative reflects Communicare Trust’s longstanding commitment to preserving and promoting artistic heritage through concerts, workshops, and educational programmes in Goa.
The first performance, A Night with Medina Ribas, will take place at the Black Box, Kala Academy, Panaji, on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 8:00 pm, with donation passes priced at ₹250. The second performance, Melody, Movement & More!, will be held at the historic Figueiredo Mansion in Loutolim on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 7:00 pm. This special evening includes a live performance alongside a curated three-course dining experience, with donation passes priced at ₹3000. Seats for both events are limited, and advance booking is recommended.
