Goa today mourned the passing of veteran freedom fighter Vaman B. Prabhugaonkar, who breathed his last on October 30, 2025, following a brief illness at the age of 87. Known for his active participation in Goaโs liberation movement, Prabhugaonkar also served as the President of the 18th June Kranti Din Samiti, tirelessly working to preserve the legacy of the stateโs struggle for freedom.
His funeral was held this evening and was attended by prominent leaders such as PWD Minister Digambar Kamat, Avinash Shirodkar, and Prashant Naik, who paid their respects. However, the absence of state honours at the ceremony has drawn sharp criticism from fellow freedom fighters and social activists, sparking debate over the recognition of those who dedicated their lives to Goaโs freedom.
Throughout his life, Prabhugaonkar remained a symbol of courage, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to the nation. His contributions to the Mapusa Satyagraha and the broader liberation movement are remembered as an inspirational chapter in Goaโs history.
The state mourns the loss of a true patriot whose legacy of bravery and dedication will continue to guide future generations.
